Old Faithful, Yellowstone National Park

Waited several hours to see Old Faithful.There are so many other beautiful things to see and do besides wait for it to go off.Once it did,It was not as impressive as I imagined and there are way too many people to make this an enjoyable experience.

Unique Suggestions: Go to the Old Faithful Inn and get a seat on the outside deck . There is a bar nearby and you can sip a beer and do some people watching while waiting for the eruption.

The entire Old Faithtful area was jammed packed with people.... in October. We are the type of travelers that plan our trips mainly to avoid the crowds but we also enjoy seeing the popular sites at least once in or lives. The parking lot was difficult to navigate with all the people and tour buses. Can't imagine how they do it in the summer! So,we saw it, another check marked on the "must see " list.

Old Faithful is impressive and has a great history so go and enjoy it once.

Fun Alternatives: Norris Geyer Basin-

Many geysers in one area. Nice trails and hardly anybody around..

Old Faithful Geyser : The attrraction of Yellowstone. A spectacular geyser indeed, but in a way disappointing. It is not in a very beautiful setting : there are two lodges built close by. There is a big sign that tells you when the next time the geyser will erupt and a large car park nearby where busloads of tourist get out and stand around the geyser.... that does take away a bit of the magic.
