    Village Recoleta

Favorite thing: Pretty much the center of all tourist activity in the city, and despite my best efforts, the area where I spend most of my time. Here you'll find the Village Recoleta, where there are many shops, restaurants and a huge movie theatre. Take a walk outside, and go head down Junin for the longest and most touristy restaurant row in the city. The prices may be a bit higher here, but the food is generally good in most places, and very good in my favorite, El Parrillon de Recoleta.

Across the street is the Cemetario de Recoleta (where you can visit the tomb of Evita, among others), The Basilica Nuestra Senora del Pilar, as well as the Plastic Museum (yes!). And if you are so inclined, check out the swanky and famous Alvear Palace Hotel; the place where royalty and heads of state stay.

    History, tradition

Favorite thing: Founded in the 16th century and ruled by the Spanish for approximately 200 years, Buenos Aires prospered in part because of its riverside location and in part because of its industrious inhabitants.

Recent history has seen economic turmoil cost many Portenos their entire life's savings, but people here seem to have borrowed that famous British characteristic, "a stiff upper lip" and are carrying on.

Favorite thing: This is a square I really like! I used to live at my grandmother's house from 1995 till 2005 and she lives right infront of this square.

Es una plaza que me gusta mucho. Vivi en la casa de mi abuela desde 1995 hasta 2005 y ella vive justo enfrente a esta plaza.

    Cementery of the Recoleta

Favorite thing: It is on the left side of the Basilica of Our Lady of Pilar. Along the cementery?s streets, you will find mausoleums with sculptures by famous local and international artists. Many well-known people are buried here, such as Eva Duarte de Peron (Evita), Domingo Faustino Sarmiento, Juan Manuel de Rosas, Facundo Quiroga and Bartolome Mitre.

Basilica of our Lady of Pilar (Pilar Church)

    Basilica del Pilar

Favorite thing: The construction of the church dates back to the 18th century. It is one of the most typical vestiges of the colonial period, and an example of jesuitical architecture. Inside it has a single central nave with several chapels with carvings and images from the 18th century.
