Nothing Irish about this place only the high prices and a pint of over priced guinness. Crowded place not comfortable and cheesy. Avoid at all costs there are a lot of other great bars in Buenos Aires and an excellent new Irish bar in Cordoba - Clarkes Bar

I can't for the life of me understand why people travel to the other end of the earth to get something that they can get every night of the week at home ??
It's like Brits going to the Costa del Sol and eating Fish and Chips ????
Surley the point of travel is to experience something different !!!
I've been to the Kilkenny on a couple of occasions just to see what all the fuss is about and to try to figure out why the Travel guides recommend it - I still can't figure it out - all it is is pints of Guiness and dark decor and exactly the same as any other Kilkenny anywhere else on the planet

Decent place to go when there is a reputable band playing. Other than that this is one seedy dive bar of a place with koo koo prices for Guinness. Many female "working girls" ( hookers ) like to hang here since it is located a few steps from many well known chica bars. Unfortuantely, they are mostly stale and worn out like this so-called Irish bar. Avoid unless your into riff raff. Things take a long time to die in B's A's.

kilkennys - nothing irish about it except the over priced guiness. this place attracts a real mixed bag check it out if you have to. (located in a seedy and increasingly dangerous area ) druids across the street is not much of a place and matias down past cordoba is good on sunday night.( all located on reconquista )
the temple bar is a hip place for a few drinks and is good late in the week. they pour a good pint and overall is a much nicer place then the others (slow most nights)
shamrock bar up on arenales/ rodriquiez pena good happy hour bar and on thursdays. nothing irish about the place but it is a popular hip place w/ dancing in basement.
jack the rippers ( english style ) on monteviedo and has good tunes.
clover bar off de mayo / piedras is a ok little dive bar w/ lively happy hour. dead at night !
sullivans in palermo soho is an ok place to grab a drink just off the zoo atmosphere of plaza serano. changed alot since i was here last . get ready to listen to non stop madonna, queen, techno . this will be the first gay-irish pub in b.a. soon (most expensive guiness in town 18 pesos )
dubliners in palermo hollywood is a favorite of mine for a quiet drink ( across the street is a place call morelia serves excellent pizza) low key but overall a chill little place done up nice . u-2 is the music of choice live band friday (celtic )
basically there are no irish bars in thestereotypical sense here in buenos aires but more bars w/ an irish flavor . if you really want to check out a true gem of a pub in the traditional sense go to bangalore on humbolt/niceto out in palermo hollywood. this place is a real find with simple decor ( paintings on the wall and not the typical bar nostaglia ) its warm and cool, plays great music, serves the best pints and overall is a pub in the truest form ( not irish or english just a pub ) . next door is carnal (hip popular bar jammin bob marley ) for dance across the street is niceto ( club 69 on thurs ) across the street berlins. not all r open everyday.
happy hang overs

It's a dreadful place! It has absolutely nothing in common with Irish pubs in Ireland but is depressingly similar to Irish Pubs in places like St Petersburg or Paris or Rio de Janeiro. I wonder why it is that when people try to recreate authentic national experiences out of the original country they always get it so wrong? Keep well away from it and go to a regular Argentine bar! I bought an "Irish Sandwich" there - I have never heard of an Irish Sandwich in Ireland!

Kilkenny. This place would be more fun if they showed South Park and Kenny dying. I really do not like this place. Have gone twice just to make sure although both were during my first trip here in March of 2005. Mike and I found a couple other places on the side block that were much better. Great service in those places.
But unfortunately Kilkenny is where all the guidebooks send you. So go here and check it out. You might like it better than I did. This place is all about tourists and pushing the product.
Dress Code: There isnt a dress code here that we could tell. Its a pub. I would have walked out faster if they had said there was one.

In buenos Aires you have a millon bars to go at night, they are really great!
You have diferent kind of places to go, you have Irland pubs, bars with live music (jazz, blues, bossa, rock, and others), and a lot more.
Also we have 2 casinos here.. I dont know if everybody likes them.. I DO! =)
Somethings is true! you cannot be bored in Buenos Aires...
If you dont like drinking and going to bars or Discos you have a thousand more options, like cinema, theatres, bowling, pools...
You should REALLY come here!
=)
I attached a photo of an Ireland pub, it's open every day till +/- 6 am. I don't like that pub very much, it used to be a nice place when it opened, but now a days is too crowded and I don't like very much the people that goes there...
I prefer "John John" or "Druid In" that are less than 1 block from there.

the lost evening... after well over a bottle of Malbec with my new friends from United Airlines... we danced on the bars, I sang with the band (very badly I might add) and had as a souvenir of the evening not only a Tshirt signed by everyone there, but a good hangover. urgh.

For the past 5 years Irish pubs have become really popular among porteƱos. There are around 6 in the area where The Kilkenny is.
So either for some snacks, drought or a good Guinnes (which always come with some salty popcorn) this is a good place to go. Good for meeting people and listening to music too. At the moment the 30% of the people who go there are tourists, this is because the exchange rate is really good for them , but also because this pub is located right in downtown, which is where most tourists hang out.
To get a table go at around 10 or 11 pm. After 12 you'll have to be standing. Don't forget to take your ID even if you're over 21!

It's an Irish Pub just like Irish Pubs are like in all over the world. They have live music, you can eat and drink (irish) beer or cocktails. This one gets really crowded at the weekends after midnight. They charge 10 Peso for the entrance of males if you arrive late, but literally they don't, because the 10 Pesos are a voucher for drinks. You'll find people from every part of the world here since this place is mentioned in lots of guidebooks and brochures. But the locals also go there.
