This is a restaurant where I ate out most evenings whilst I stayed in San Telmo. The restaurant attracts visitors and locals alike and specialises in parillas but you can get steak and Italian fare.
I paid an average of 10 GBP for the meal including tips for:
Empanadas, breadsticks, bread (with a salsa like dip)
Steak, fries and salad (The portions were big!)
Half a bottle of red wine (Malbec)
Favorite Dish: The steak was heavenly (and well done as I liked it). The food is excellent and I highly recommend having a meal there if you're staying in the locality.

It´s a year now I´m living in Buenos Aires, and recently I found this website: www.buenacarta.com
It´s a really good guide about restaurants in Buenos Aires and we are using it alot to find new restaurants to try out!

This is a place we go to everytime we go to Buenos Aires. The food is consistantly great, the service is wonderful and the price is right. My favorites are the beef de chorizo and my wife loves the Sorrientinos with the salsa rosso. The meal comes with a nice basket of different breads. Very extensive menu with emphasis on Porteno and Italian food. Mostly locals in the restaurant so you know it is good.
Favorite Dish: Beef de Chorizo, Salmon, Sorrentinos with Salsa Rosso

I am concerned about my experiences at the Tuscon Steakhouse in Recoleta on 02.01.10. The event is described below:
There were service issues such as the waitress breaking the cork into the bottle and trying to still serve it to us (she failed to move the cork inn the next bottle and had to have assistance). One meal was returned as it was not cooked properly. It was raw!
However, the real problem was when we came to pay. The bill was wrong which we sorted out and I paid on my credit card at the table by entering my pin number into the machine. However, before we left I was asked to come to the cash desk because machine was not working properly and the payment had not gone through. I was then asked to sign another slip. I asked if your staff were sure the first payment had not gone through and was assured that it had not.
On my return to England I checked my credit card statement with all the receipts I had from our trip. I noticed that on the 2nd of January two identical payments of 219.00 ARS had been charged to my account. I had the receipt for one which carried the name Clarks which I assumed was the name of the restaurant's parent company or something. This was the one I was given originally by your staff. The other was for Tuscon which of course is the name of the restaurant in Recoleta that we dined in.
When I first contacted the restaurant I was emailed by a gentleman who promised to sort the matter out. Despite sending 10 subsequent emails to that gentleman I have had no reply. I am now querying if the double charging was in fact an error.

Amazing original pastas at this family run cozy italian restaurant in Almagro.
Cons: Cash only / Opens at 8:30 p.m. for dinner
As the restaurant opens pretty late for dinner, stop by El Banderín for beers and enjoy the cozy local bar full of flags from many football teams in the world.

Puerto del Carmen is a small neighborhood restaurant, just off Florida St. Inside, it feels like a cozy bar. There are also umbrella tables out on the sidewalk, and it was fun to people-watch as we ate. We liked the food, and the place itself, so much that we went back several times.
Favorite Dish: The empanadas were excellent (and only about $3.) They also had very good pizza with Argentine flavors.

My visit to Pura Tierra was based on the recommendation of a friend of mine in town who knows the owner and chef here. I was looking for some place to take the group to have a going away dinner for all of us to celebrate our last night in Buenos Aires.
As it turned out our group reservation of five was modified upon our arrival as we were 30 minutes early and also only three people. But they adjusted easily and were very accommodating in it all.
The service here was quite good and by what I consider BsAs standards, among the best. They were always near by when we needed and ready to help with anything we wanted. Like everywhere in Buenos Aires however it was difficult to get the check when it was time.
The restaurant space it self is fairly small but at such an early hour it felt spacious to us. We were alone for probably half of our meal before others strolled in. In the back there is a lounge area with low chairs and a couch although I can not say for sure if it is used or just decoration.
Favorite Dish: The food started with a small piece of tongue on a large spoon arriving to each of our plates. So of course Liz and Rob were having none of that. Fair enough, it’d been a long week of trying so many new things you don’t have to eat it all. So it funneled to my plate one at a time. When the waiter came back to collect it I had already eaten two and had a third waiting but Liz and Rob had taken the spoons back. So it looked like I was the one who had not eaten it. This was quite funny to them.
Next was a selection of three sauces to go with bread. I don’t remember what they all were but certainly had some of each. My favorite was the pumpkin which I ate the entirety of my self.
I had also ordered a pizza appetizer for the table which was jamon(ham) and greens on it. Everyone liked this very much and we actually had to chop up the fourth piece as we all wanted more....it was that good.
My main was the lamb. I was honestly surprised I went with meat yet again but there was not a lot on the menu that was not meat. This lamb was fantastic. Easily among the very best I have ever had which includes the former Kaisergarten in Karlsruhe Germany and both L’Uva in Massachusetts and Asterisk in Newport Rhode Island. I can’t honestly declare it the best but it is definitely among the best. To me, this was simply an excellent meal.
Liz had a spinach stuffed pasta that was said to be ravioli but without cheese in it and Rob went with the Bife de Ojo which he liked but didn’t love.
To go with all this we shared a bottle of the Alta Vista Premium.

Down an alley, with a locked entrance that requires you ring a bell for entrance, Sirop has a bit of "speakeasy" charm to it. Once inside, you find a pretty, tiny restaurant that serves exquisitely prepared food. The service is excellent although a bit stiff. The cuisine is very Argentinian, but with a classical French twist. Every dish is tasty and beautiful to look at. Gravlox was absolutely delicious sitting atop a mound of lemony cream cheese/marscapone mixture. A bit less cheese would have been even better. Ravioles Confit were made from homemade pasta, delicate meat filling and a lucious sauce. The salads were huge, fresh and beautiful. A radicchio salad also had Belgian endive and candied walnuts. Asado braseado starred slow roasted shortribs in an impossibly rich, velvety dark sauce that was so rich, it fed two people quite easily. The wine list is decent, but pricey. The breads are good, but all seem to have nuts or fruit in them. There is a nice selection of desserts, but the food is so rich, we declined.
Favorite Dish: Gravlox for its perfectly balanced salmon flavor and Asado Braseado for its silky sauce and decadently rich meat.

Don Julio is a classic Argentinian steakhouse. It's been around for a long time, has a terrific wine list and always features professional service. The beef is delicious and the portions are generous. On two visits, four of us worked our way through several of the cuts. The Ojo de Bife (rib eye) was terrific with just the right amount of charcoal flavor. They also feature a delicious lomo (filet). Asado (flanken with short bones) seemed to be very popular with the locals although we didn't try it here. The skirt steak and New York were both good, but we prefered the other cuts. Salads are big and need to be shared. Chorizo sausage is tasty. The Morcilla (blood sausage) is almost like pudding, but has good flavor. The mollejas (sweetbreads) are juicy with just the right amount of smoke flavor. Good french fries too. Half orders of many steaks and meats are offered.
Favorite Dish: Ojo de Bife with a green salad and french fries, but first a half order of sweetbreads. Perfect flavor and enough for two people.
