An Ice Cream artist by Sonador3 Another Ice Cream place in the Village de Recoleta. Conveniently located right in the middle of the Junin restaurant row, Munchis is for people too bloated to walk down to the Freddo down the block. The specialty here is their Dulce de Leche flavored ice cream dipped in chocolate. It really is a piece of artwork the way they do it!! J Actually, the ice cream is quite good here, and they also have a large assortment of tortas, cakes and pies. And if you aren’t totally stuffed, pick up a jar of Dulce de Leche and a box of Alfajores to eat in your hotel room, and slip into a nice sugar induced coma! The Mothers BBQ by Sonador3 As I mentioned above in another Parrilla review, I love these outdoor places. This one is located in the Plaza Congreso and is very popular. They sell two types of sandwiches, but it wasn't a tough decision; whenever faced with a choice between choripan and anything else, always choose the choripan. I'm not positive, but I think profits from this Parrillon are used to help the Mothers of Missing Children. Anyway, the line was huge, which is always a good sign, and I paid the $1.50 for my Choripan, garnished it with some chimichuri and sat down outside under the tent and had as good a lunch as one can have. Excellent sandwich. Located in the Plaza Congreso where Montevideo runs through it. al fresco dining by Sonador3 Located on the second floor of a building in the Plaza Dorrego, about 10 meters from the Café Dorrego (I know that’s a pretty lame description, but you’re going to have to trust me on this) is a nice little lunch café serving a mean Bife Chorizo. While I was wandering around the Plaza Dorrego on one Sunday afternoon, I was starting to get really hungry. And looking around, I had no idea where I’d eat, until looking up I noticed a cool little café. So, up the stairs I went and sat down to what turned out to be a really great lunch. I had the Bife de Chorizo (of course), which came with roasted sweet potatoes and I washed it down with a half liter of Quilmes. The only downside was the incredibly uncomfortably hard steel chairs, which are a pain in the…..er, forget it. Our First Look at WHAM ! by Bwana_Brown It had been a long trip from eastern Canada to Buenos Aires! Our final flight segment lifted off from Atlanta, Georgia at 11 PM (Argentina time) and we landed at 8:30 AM. By the time we cleared customs, arranged transport into the city and then delivery to our hotel it was already 11 AM. After getting that sorted out and cleaned up a bit, we finally made it onto the streets of BA. It was now pushing 1 PM and we were getting very hungry!
In the immediate area of the hotel, no restaurants stood out as very enticing places to enter. There was a Burger King and a MacDonald's down the street, but I did not fly 7000 miles to eat at one of those! After spotting WHAM, we had a look inside as we walked past it's large windows, and it seemed to be catering to an ordinary lunch time crowd. OK, we decided, let's go in and try our luck with our first Argentinian meal ! Leave a Comment Theme: LocalAddress: Sarmiento 1699Directions: About 4 blocks from Plaza Congreso on Av. Sarmiento.

corner deli by Sonador3 This is probably the only place in town where you can get a good pastrami sandwich. I mean it's not NYC quality, but its good. And when you need a break from all that beef, or just need a good sandwich, this is the place to go. They have 4 locations around town, but I went to the one in Retiro in the business district. Filled with business folks during the busy lunch hour, I prefer to go after the crowd has thinned down a bit. During the evening there is a happy hour with music and whatnot. But come for a pastrami sandwich and a beer. Also know to serve a pretty mean bagel and lox along with a full breakfast menu. Tango--the dance of passion by VeronicaG While visiting San Telmo's feria, we discovered a pleasant restaurant nearby--La Pergola de San Telmo. We were led to an upstairs dining area where a pretty terrace punctuated the room with a view of the feria below. A suave couple demonstrated the tango as we dined! I couldn't help but picture my husband and myself gracefully parading before the people, elegantly dressed and filled with passion...oh never mind! We ordered a "Fellini" pizza made with a tomato sauce base and topped with provolone cheese, mushrooms, oregano and parsley. There may have been another topping, but whatever...it was fantastic and the cost for two with a beverage was under $10.

The Waiter's Reflection by Bwana_Brown The morning of our first full day in Buenos Aires saw us off on a major walking expedition to see the downtown sights. We hit the sidewalks at 9:30 AM and it was sunny and already 27 degrees C (almost 80 F). By the time we had taken in the Obelisk, Florida Street, Plaza de Mayo and the Casa Rosada it was 33 degrees and almost noon. We decided to keep on walking to the historic San Telmo district where we hoped we could find a restaurant with some ambiance. Winding our way through the old streets, we noticed them becoming empty of people as the sun beat down and it was Siesta time. Finally, 47 city blocks after setting out from our hotel, we spotted a restaurant crier on a street corner in San Telmo! He was not long ushering us into the Don Ernesto restaurant ('any port in a storm' as they say)!
This restaurant has a nice decour and, more importantly, nice air conditioning! It was not very busy, so we opted to go to an upstairs section with an internal balcony that overlooks the lower level. Our very friendly waiter, from Romania, quickly served up some cold beers to get us back on track while we looked the menu over. His English was minimal but the menu had a small English section which helped us in our final decisions: Sue had their Tenderloin steak with salad while I decided to try the Garlic Shrimp with rice. The steak was OK as were my shrimp, although they were a bit tough. Not one of our best meals, but it was very nice hour and a half relaxing in the coolness. By the time we left, it was really starting to fill up. Total cost of the food plus a few beers was A$45 (US$15). The Hamburger has Arrived at Our Table by Bwana_Brown We were surprised that their menu also came in English, making our meal decision a great deal easier. I had yet to have an Argentinian hamburger, so this was my last best chance to sample their beef in this form! The menu was very helpful in this regard, because there is a bit of a trick to ordering a hamburger. You can either order the beef patty by itself or the 'hamburguesa completa' which means you also get a bun. Finally, for another A$1.50 you can order the cheese, tomatoe and lettuce to go with it.
I decided to go for the full meal which, when it came, also included a slice of ham, a boiled egg and an olive! Because of the peanuts we had been snacking, Sue decided to keep things down to a dull roar with a delicious toasted cheese, lettuce and tomatoe sandwich that was pressed very thin. Because we were in no big rush, and intermittent showers were falling outside, we lingered here a bit over another round of drinks as we enjoyed the atmosphere. By the time we left at just past 1 PM, the bar was fast filling up and I, in fact, had to try hard to catch the waiter's eye to pay our bill. The total cost of our meal plus three beers and two glasses of wine was A$31 (US$11 including the tip). Leave a Comment

Old restaurant logo by sabrina_florida Anything that you order here is really good. I remember the black hake as one of my favourite dishes (merluza negra), it comes along with a boiled potato. The dishes in general are either Argentine (although there's no barbecue here) or Spanish, or a mixture of both. I would describe the ambiance as a classic Buenos Aires restaurant: the decoration and the waiters! :) Leave a Comment Theme: OtherPrice: US$11-20 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: Monroe 2444, Belgrano.Directions: Half a block from Cabildo avenue. outdoor cafe by Sonador3 Ok, this is my little tourist trap of a café. The only reason to come here is if you are totally exhausted from walking around La Boca and need a place to sit down, have a cold Quilmes and watch a tango on sitting at an outdoor table. Actually, it doesn’t sound like a bad idea, does it? Which is why I included it. Though the price was a bit high (12 pesos for the whole thing), I wasn’t upset at all. I had a really cold and tasty beverage, some salty nuts and a pretty interesting tango show. While some might turn their nose up at this type thing, I think it’s a necessary part of every trip. I mean, not every place you go has to be hip, slick and cool…right? Sometimes you HAVE to make like a tourist and watch the show. They have a full menu here, including pizzas, pastas and empanadas, but I didn’t try any.
