Alto Palermo Shopping Center: IMHO The Best Mall in Buenos Aires

The Alto Palermo shopping center is a very modern mall in the Palermo neighborhood. It is a very short taxi ride from downtown or Recoleta. From my apartment it was less than $4 pesos.

The mall is at least 2 times bigger than Galerias Pacifico. Infact one of the streets that Alto Palermo is on, Arenales, runs directly through the first floor of the mall. Many of the shops you find in Galerias Pacifico are in Alto Palermo. And the ratio of tourists is much less than at Galerias Pacifico.

Prices didn't seem to be any lower in Alto Palermo than they were at Galerias Pacifico. At least in the shops I went into, such as Adidas and Yves Saint Laurent. Where as in at the shops in Galerias Pacifico or on Florida Street or down Sante Fe, just about every store clerk spoke English, in Alto Palermo almost none of the clerks did.

What to buy: Just about everything. I bought mostly clothing.

What to pay: All depends on how much you are willing to spend. I bought 3 dress shirts Yves Saint Laurant and 2 soccer jerseys from Adidas for about $200 US dollars. The same purchase in a mall in the US would have been over $400 US dollars.

Alto Palermo Shopping

Opened in 1990, Alto Palermo is the main shopping centre in the city. Its daring architectural design, awarded by the International Council of Shopping Centers, re-creates a four-cornered structure with a mirror-like exterior that reflects the buildings in Santa Fe Avenue and Coronel Díaz Street. It has three storeys, decorated in marble, ceramic tiles and fine wood, housing more than 180 shops, a dining area for 750 people, a cyber-café and a roofed parking lot for 700 cars.

The fun fair is a good option for youngsters and children. The two movie theatres at the premises offer special prices for children under 12 (ARA4 for any show); the regular admission fee is ARA7.

Other entertaining activities are musical performances, shows and beauty centres for women.

Alto Palermo Shopping Mall: more expensive than the Abasto

alto palermo

this shopping is much smaller than the "Abasto",

it has less shops

And prices are 10 to 15% more expenses than the Abasto (my own experience, i paid $arg 10 more for a pair of shoes on this mall that the original price on any other store outside the mall)

the most popular trade marks that Porteños wear are on this shooping like: Levis, Wanama, Adidas, Quicksilver, The roxy, billabong, lady store (shoes), Caro Cuore (for women underwear), kill, yagmour, chocalate, etc

What to buy: Anything you want!

What to pay: Exchanged currancy aprox:

1 u$D = $arg 3.15

1 euro = $arg 4.65

1 £ (british pound) = $arg 6.30

1 $R (brasil reais) = $arg 1.85

Alto Palermo Shopping was one of the first large centers of purchase of high level. Its construction brought prepared a great economic, building, and commercial growth of the neighborhood of Palermo. It offers a great variety of commercial localities distributed in three flats. Besides counts on movie theaters and a sector with play for children.

What to buy: Clothes, shoes, etc

What to pay: A lot of money because is expensive place

Alto Palermo shopping center

There are quite a number of large shopping malls in Buenos Aires, and most tourists end up shopping in Galerias Pacifico because it is located on Florida shopping street, the main pedestrian zone of the city. However, you'll find the same merhandise in Alto Palermo that you will find at Galerias Pacifico, but the prices will be a bit less. In addition to that, by shopping at Alto Palermo, you'll be around a lot more locals than tourists.

It's easy to get to Alto Palermo by taking the green subway line to the Bulnes station. The shopping center is at that station.

This place is not as big as Unicenter but is also not as far. Located in the Palermo area, has a good variety of shops and is very convenient to downtown.
