This antique shop is tucked at the end of a shopping pavillion in San Telmo (not as bad as it sounds). They have an extensive collection of XVII and XVIII c. Spanish colonial art and silver, mostly religious themed. The dealers are happy to spend time and tell you about the items, certificates of authenticity are availbale - but make sure you ask for them. They are open to discussing price breaks if you pay in cash. A great place to browse or buy.

For lovers of Borges, there is a book called Buenos Aires Tiempo de Borges written by the city's historian Leon Tenenbaum..
It is so tempting to buy so many books on sale at discount bookstores and also at kiosks and everywhere
What to buy: Books and Books,
to copy Mitch Kaplan's wonderful bookstore in Coral Gables, Florida
What to pay: Argentina has a wonderful publishing history. Translated books are slightly more expensive as expected.. books are around 20-30 pesos, with larger ones at 50-60 pesos

Located on Avenida Santa Fe, steps away from Avenida Callao, the El Ateneo - Grand Splendid bookstore is a total beauty. Located in what used to be one of the msot beautiful movie theatres in the city (the Grand Splendid), which went south in the era of the multiplex, the El Ateneo chain has done a great job of preserving the interior while at the same time accomodating for a multilevel book shopping space. Make sure to walk in, check the beautiful,gold-leafed balconies, the stage (which now is used as a cafe) and look up to one of the most ellaborate ceilings you'll see in a bookstore anywhere.
What to pay: Prices vary, depending on the book - you can find books in foreign languages too, and a good selection of coffee table books with photographs of Argentina

Watch out for promotions.
There was a ‘DEVELOP 5 ROLLS AND THE LAST ROLL IS FREE’ promotion when I was there. So, it averaged out to 18 Arg Pesos per roll.
They use FUJI paper and the quality is really quite good.
There are 2 branches along Calle Florida, Florida 250 and Florida 439.
