Colon Theatre: Go to this theater!!
This theater is amazing!! When I walk inside I remained with my mouth open..
First you buy the tickets (It's important, that if you are a student visitor, have the international student card, with this, the tickets are a lot cheaper).
You can choose between a spanish or english visit. guided.
Well, you take a walk by all the rooms, seat in the important seats of the Big Room, the picture room, ..it's necessary to see it =)

Tours of the theater's interior and backstage are given; we didn't take it, although I understand it's quite worthwhile. But since this is a temple for music, I'd strongly suggest you catch a live performance if at all possible. The box office is *underneath* the theater, off a covered alleyway that crosses from one side to the other. Given the exchange rate, the ticket price was very reasonable (the box office takes credit cards).

We saw an intriguing, modern production of Wagner's "Der fliegende Hollaender" conducted by Charles Dutoit. We shared a box with opera lovers from in town as well as from Italy and Poland. Afterwards we strolled over to Cafe Tortoni as we debated the merits of the production (I was a bit skeptical). But the whole evening was like a blessed dream, an unforgettable experience.

We took the backstage tour of this magnificent building. You will encounter singers and actors who perform for your group. There was a dress reherarsal in progress while we were there and we listened to a bit of it.

Colon Theatre: Opera at the Colon Theater
We went to the opera and saw "The Magic Flute." The sound system is superb. I highly recommend that you do NOT purchase tickets that are "partial view." We did because of time constraints, and could only see half of the stage.

On some Mondays they have other musical shows for 2 pesos per person. What a bargain!
