A fine Museum with lots of well known Painters and Sculptors. For my taste there could be more "modern" stuff. (personal non-professional opinien ;-))

Museums & Cultural Centers: The Buenos Aires Zoo
A good place to spend a nice relaxed day. I think it opens at 9:00.The 12.50 peso pass is the best deal since it lets you go to to the Boat Ride (cheesy but you see a lot of animals). THey have a replica of a rain forest, with a dark exhibit for bats, one for monkeys and one for snakes. They also have small food court where you can get a Tostada, Cokes, sandwich fr lomo, etc.
They have a good variety of animals includinga Siberian Tiger, a giraffe, rhinoceros, great reptile collection and a well stocked aquarium w/ lots of S. American fishes along some other more far flungtypes. The architectural style of some of the building is impressive. One guidebook remarked that the animal collection was only so-so but the buildings were unique.

Museums & Cultural Centers: Museo Historico Nacional
Another museum housed in a beautiful colonial mansion, this history museum has great stuff from Argentina's history - from pre-Columbian era thru today. It provides a great look at the art AND everyday life in all those periods. Fantastic stuff in here.

Museums & Cultural Centers: Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires
Commonly known as malba, this museum features some good modern art by Argentinian artists. Aside from one Diego Riviera (sp?) piece at the entrance, most of the works were unknown to me. I was pleasantly surprised by some of the works and this was a great change of pace from walking around the city and doing the historical sightseeing. There is a small fee to enter the museum but it is no more than the equivalent of US $2.00

There was a photo exhibit by Horacio Coppola which was excellent because the photographs gave us insight into how Buenos Aires looked during the 1920s and there is, until the end of October 2006, an exhibit of the work of Argentine artist Fabián Marcaccio.
