    The giant flower (Floral Generica)

I was told that Floral Generica is designed and built by private enterprise and paid for exclusively by its creator, the architect Eduardo Catalano.

The aluminium sculpture weighs eighteen tons and is twenty meters long, having forty meters of diameter. It opens to the sun each morning, and closes again at dusk.

    metal flower

Also known as that big friggin metal flower. This is located in a large park on F. Alcorta. If you travel by bus or taxi for a few days, you cannot miss it. It's a huge metal flower that opens and closes in time with the sun. During the day it's wide open, and in the evening, it closes almost all of the way, except for brightly colored lights meant to represent the stamen and pistels. One of my big regrets from this past trip is that I wasn't able to snap a photo of it at night, as it's a beautiful sight.

    petals wide open by day

If you take a cab at all in BA, you'll probably drive along Avenida Figueroa Alcorta, which is where this big silver flower is located. In Plaza Naciones Unida, it's solar powered so it opens by day and closes by night. The architect was Edaurdo Catalano.

An interesting fusion of technology and art. This structure consists of a metallic flower sitting in a pool of water. Sensors located on the inside cause the petals to close at night and open during the day. It costed US $7 million to build this structure.

"Floralis generica" is a metal giant sculpture, positioned in the UN Park near the Recoleta district in April 2002, next to B.Aires Law University.
The Sculpture is the work of a famous Argentinian architect, Eduardo Catalano; it is constructed of steel and aluminium, 23m in diameter, weighing 18 tons, and - as a special feature - closes its blossom at sunset and opens it with sunrise. It is located in a large pond, thus giving an unique impression, with the water reflecting the shining blossom and its petals.

This giant piece of modern art is located not far from the Recoleta. I think it is meant to be a flower, but my friend thinks it is an alien communication device. Whatever it is it is quite impressive, check it out if you get the chance. There is also a nice park surrounding it, if you need somewhere to sit and rest after a long day of sightseeing.

A new landmark for Buenos Aires, Floralis Generica is a giant 23 meter sculpture made of steel and aluminum (18 tons weight). The structure of the flower is made of steel and the shiny panels in the petals are made of aluminum. The sculpture moves closing its petals (each one is 13mts. long x 7 mts. wide) at night and opening them during the day. It has also some lighting for special occasions too.

Standing in a 40-meter reflecting pool, the flower was erected in 2002 as a gift from the argentine architect Eduardo Catalano.

    Floralis Generica

Floralis Generica is located in Plaza Naciones Unidas. It was designed, constructed by Eduardo Catalano, an Argentinian architect who studied in the US. Portenos were complaining about all the money spent on the project while where is so much poverty in the city but it was actually all donated by Catalano himself.
Using the hydraulic device, the 18 ton sculpture opens during the day and closes at night. It has six metallic petals, each being almost 20 meters high rise from the water. This special flower looks really impressive.
