Buenos Aires Zoo(Jardin Zoologico)
My wife and I love to visit zoos in every city we visit and Buenos Aires is no exception. The zoo is open 9:30-6pm from Tuesday-Sunday. The admission is inexpensive(3-4 US dollars). Food to feed the animals is available for purchase. Carlos Thays Garden and the Japanese Garden are located nearby.

The Buenos Aires Zoo
A good place to spend a nice relaxed day. I think it opens at 9:00.The 12.50 peso pass is the best deal since it lets you go to to the Boat Ride (cheesy but you see a lot of animals). THey have a replica of a rain forest, with a dark exhibit for bats, one for monkeys and one for snakes. They also have small food court where you can get a Tostada, Cokes, sandwich fr lomo, etc.
They have a good variety of animals includinga Siberian Tiger, a giraffe, rhinoceros, great reptile collection and a well stocked aquarium w/ lots of S. American fishes along some other more far flungtypes. The architectural style of some of the building is impressive. One guidebook remarked that the animal collection was only so-so but the buildings were unique.
Buenos Aires Zoo
This is probably not the greatest zoo in the world but is certainly worth a look. There is a good collection of South American animals which you may not see other places, plus the old favourites. Some of the enclosures are quite old and could do with improvement, but there are some new sections such as the asian animal section which are quite modern and up to standard. The highlight for me was the Madagascan Lemurs
NO, YOU ARE NOT IN SRI LANKA!
Yes, it is Buenos Aires! This zoo is one of the most complete zoo ijn the world, they do have a great educaional programme for all children and people who wants to visit the place, the big variety of animals and the animals which you can see everywhere in freedom makes the place real special. It is one of the historical monuments of the city, they build that zoo in the beggining of the last century. It is a real must to go there!

Zoo - Jardin zoologico de la Ciudad de Bs. Aires
Founded by Domingo F. Sarmiento at the end of 1874 like part of the project of the Park February 3 (Forests of Palermo). The zoo is adorned by important statues, monuments where you can appreciate Lola Mora's works between others.

The visit to the zoo was heartbreaking....
Being an animal lover, one of the things that I really wanted to do was to visit the zoo. In some ways I wish that I hadn't and maybe I shouldn't list this as a must see but then I also hope that Now, 10 years down the track these poor animals have a happier environment in which to live. The starkness of their enclosures and cramped quarters reduced me to tears. I could not believe how these poor animals were kept. Hardly a tree in sight in most enclosures. There was nothing natural about their concrete floored "cages".
This zoo was, previously, on the Libertador Av. and Sarmiento. After his first manager, Dr. Eduardo Holmberg (1888-1904) the zoo changed to a more scientific side and moved to his actual place.

Our Zoo may result interesting for kids as you tour neighboring areas like Palermo. It has been recently renovated but can't really compare with the quality of famous zoos around the world.
