Mate!

by Devotchka

It is quite popular to bring a thermas and a Mate cup anywhere you go! Drinking Yerba Mate is one of the most popular drinks in/around Argentina. Plus it is quite tasteful, and you may gain some more respect from the locals.

Delivery, anyone??

by reon80

Iýve found that in Buenos Aires, you can have almost ANYTHING delivered to your door. Iýve been told by Argentinian friends that this is an extra way to get business for your shop or restaurant in this time of economic depression. Either way, Iýve been able to have my laundry picked up, washed, dried, ironed, folded, and returned to my house for less than $2 US! In addition, you can get food delivered from ANYWHERE--Iým not talking just pizza and Chinese like in the United States! Itýs very popular to get ice cream delivered to the house, and you can even get McDonalds or Burger King, or almost any cafe, to deliver to your office in some areas downtown! Itýs quite a city of convenience from what Iýve experienced so far! (Although of course you make up for saving this extra time it by spending hours in lines at banks, supermarkets, etc)

El Calafate : Elfs and dwarves... Elfes et nains

by Maillekeul

In El Calafate, a lot of people believe that the surroundings are inhabited by elfs and magic dwarves... Not that sure, but it's a good business... However, we've been told by a local friend, that once, he was lost in a forrest, and that, after having wandered around during 3 days without eating and almost drinking, these little magic people saved his life... I think that, before loosing himself, he has probably drunk or smoked too much...

Mate

by realde14

In Buenos Aires and all over Argentina (actually also in Uruguay, Paraguay, and the South of Brazil), you will find plenty of people drinking Mate, a bitter herbal tea. Try it, you might actually like it. Drinking (and preparing it!) is a national obsession in Argentina

local accent

by mariquita

Argentina is different from other Latin American countries in that most of its inhabitants are of European descent. Roughly 50 % are of spanish origin and 50 % from Italy, but there are also minorities from many other countries. The large Italian community has influenced the language and the way they pronounce Spanish. I like it when they talk.

WINE WITH SODA

by swesn

During meals, Argentinians prefer to dilute their wine with some soda water (water with gas). These soda water are dispensed from a huge plastic bottle with a pump. Note, always serve wine by pouring with your right hand, never your left hand. Here is the old version, in glass bottles.

TANGO

by swesn

Get into the Argentine mood by dancing tango! Or, if you are those who step on your partner’s toes repeatedly, enjoy watching a street-tango then.Tango is sensual, beautiful, fluid. The music always nostalgic, always romantic. The dancers are the key-stone to my enjoyment of the art. The couple I love is so perfect together. The lady appeared to be feather-light as she was lifted, pulled (as she leaned towards the man until her body was like at an angle of 40 degrees) and twirled around seemingly effortlessly by the man. The kicks between each other's legs are swift and exact, in other words, no... they never tripped over each other. Their movements synchronised. The mood, sometimes serious, sometimes playful, always enchanting. I recommend watching out for this excellent couple who usually performs at the junction of Calle Florida and Calle Lavalle in the evening. They are just...

CHE

by swesn

Many Argentinians call each other with the name 'CHE!'. It is like a replacement for the real name of the person, or for the word 'Friend'. They may start talking to their friends with "Er... che... xxxxx"
