Esteros de Ibera - Corrientes

by M.S.FOGG

Esteros de Ibera are located in the northeast of argentina - you can go there from Corrientes. It´s a natural reserve, swamps with lots of animals, great landscape. We went to a laguna called Carlos Pellegrini with about I don´t 150 people living there. We slept in the house of a guy called hugo, he´s from Buenos Aires and he´s a really lovely host who can tell you everything about the wildlife and nature. It´s a place where usually not many people go - though there a little buses that go there - well you should take your time going there and you shouldn´t be scared of animals, because they will be in your shoes, your bed and even our food was coverd by flies - but it´s worth going there - it´s quite different to the rest of argentina.

El Bolson - one of the best places I´ve ever been

by M.S.FOGG

El Bolson is a little town in Patagonia about 150km south from neuquen. It´s quite small and it lies between two mountain streams - very beautyful place. Every week there´s a artesanian market taking place in the so called centre, they brew own beer, you can enjoy live music what ever you want. You should go there while travelling through Patagonia, not only cause the beauty of the place - there´s always nice weather because there´s some kind of microclima".

CORDOBA : MUSEO 'CHE' GUEVARA AT ALTA GRACIA

by swesn

Alta Gracia is a pretty little town, rather close to Cordoba. It is perfect for a day-trip from Cordoba. From here, you can more or less see some lovely mountain ranges in the distance and you can visit Museo Che Guevara.El Comandante Ernesto 'Che' Guevara spent his childhood here in Alta Gracia and the museum was the house rented by his parents during his childhood. There is a small collection of photos and some items around the house. 2 short movies about 'Che' are shown - one of his childhood and one of this last days in Bolivia before he was killed. The one of his childhood was particularly interesting to me, as musings from his old childhood friends, his cook, his teachers showed how contemplative, sensitive and generous Ernestito (as he was known then) was as a child. He did not just read books, they said, he devoured them. And whenever he had anything, he always shared with his...

Art Nouveau Subte Stations In Buenos Aires

by RusskiPower

The older Subte stations are interesting for their nostalgic style. At the dawn of the 20th century Spanish artists were invited to celebrate the special connection between Buenos Aires and various Spanish provinces. The result were these delightful mozaic panneaux.

For A Nice Dip In The River Paraná

by RusskiPower

Go to this unnamed camping site, you will see the signs for it on your right side as you drive from Puerto Igiazu to Eldorado (Pcia. Misiones). It is right off the road, you have to pay a fee if you stay overnight but otherwise it's free. The river bottom is somewhat muddy and grassy, but there are no leeches or crocs and the water is delightfully warm. The place is a "balneario municipal", so swimming is officially allowed.

Why Go To Bariloche For Lakes?

by RusskiPower

... when you can get quite a competitive deal in Salta by the Dique Cabra Corral? A short detour from the RN # 68 on the way from Salta to Cafayate, follow the signs for Cabra Corral. There's a bungee jumping station, a roadside restaurant and a 4-star hotel if you need something on top of those breath-taking views.

High Tea With A View Of The Falls

The lobby bar of the Sheraton offers fresh fruit juices, herbal teas and lovely cakes with a superb view of the Iguazu falls, all at a bargain price of $30 per head.A truly great air-conditioned break after all the heat and sunshine out there!

Buenos Aires – Teatro Colón

by vtveen

This very famous theatre is located rather close to the Obelisco with its back on Avenida 9 de Julio. The official entrance is at Libertad 621 and the ticket office for guided tours at Toscanini 1168.On our last afternoon in Bs As we were too late for a guided tour and our visit was limited to the outside, the theatre shop (with some interesting gifts) and the café (with an opera singer). We had heard and read a lot about this impressive theatre, so at least you should take a guided tour and even better (I suppose) is to catch a performance.Guided tours in English : Monday to Sunday 11 am, 1 pm and 3 pm.More information: http://www.teatrocolon.org.ar/inicio.htmSept. 2006: Teatro Colon will remain closed for a year to be restored. Check previously if visits will be permited.

Puerto Iguazu – Foz do Iguaçu / Parque des Aves

by vtveen

We went to Foz do Iguaçu in Brazil with a regular public bus, leaving from the bus station in Puerto Iguazu and had to pay just a couple of pesos (one way). At the Argentinean border we (and all the passengers) had to leave the bus and went to the Argentinean custom office and got (again) a stamp in our passports. At the Brazilian border nothing at all happened and the bus passed without stopping (so we missed our Brazilian stamp !!).The city of Foz do Iguaçu has no touristy sights and the shops in this rather big city with 300.000 inhabitants are not spectacular. It was difficult to enter a bank and even more difficult to get cash out of an ATM; it is better to change some money in Argentina. After a lunch we went, again by public bus - ask for the schedule at the very helpful Tourist Information – to the ‘Foz Tropicana Parque das Aves’. It is situated close to the entrance to the...

Buenos Aires – Palacio del Congreso

by vtveen

The Palacio is situated rather far from the other tourist sights. You can reach the building either by metro, taxi or walk from the Plaza de Mayo over the Avenida de Mayo (1500 metres) and enjoy some of the beautiful buildings along this avenue and even stop at the famous Café Tortoni (on number 825).At the end we reached the Plaza del Congreso, a square in the middle of the ‘crazy’ traffic of Bs As. The plaza has monuments as reminders to two congresses in 1810 and 1816 which led to the independence of Argentina.Palacio del Congreso is a monumental building, completed in 1906. More than 50 years were necessary to finish the building. It has some resemblance with the Capitol in Washington. The Congress is the seat of the Legislative Power and houses the ‘Cámara de Diputados’ and the ‘Senado’. We were unfortunately too late for a guided tour. These visits are Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays...
