Sunblock, sunblock, sunblock!

by sophisticate

Plan on buying a extra suitcase or leave a lot of room for all the goodies you'll bring back. Remember that the seasons are reversed from the northern hemisphere. It's really hot in the summer there and rains quite a bit in the afternoons. Bring enough sunblock with a high SPF for a few applications a day. Because of the thin ozone layer down there it is really easy to get burned. You'll need a lot of bug spray if you are leaving the city during your trip.

Not So Lonely After All

by leok

While virtualtourist is great you can't pick it up and stick it in your rucksack. Time for the lonely plant. The Argentina guide is one of the group's better offerings. It's suggestions were always accurate and pointed me in the right direction several times when my first choices of accommodation turned out to be fully booked. If you aren't venturing beyond Buenos Aires the Time Out guide has the edge (see separate entry) but if there is only room for one guide and you want to see as much of the country as possible this is the one to buy.

Ladies...Bring an extra Bag for all those SHOES!

by WYLENEoftheWORLD

There are so many great deals on leather shoes, coats and bags, wallets and belts that you will want to bring an extra bag to bring them home in! If you are a contact wearer (and even if your not!) bring eye drops and tissues! The pollution really takes it's toll! Bug spray for Iguazu Falls and the Pampas! Postcards of your hometown- people here really enjoy seeing where you are from, and many ask to keep the cards!

peanut butter nuts beware...

by asterjolly

PEANUT BUTTER!!!do NOT leave home without it. here in buenos aires my friend and i spent an entire day searching for peanut butter. after a train, two subte rides, and walking many blocks, we found very expensive, too runny peanut butter in an arab grocery (they had good hummus...). just bring your own.

Different climates

by mariquita

Buenos Aires is very hot and humid in the summer. If you want to visit all of the country, you must bring warm clothes for the south and the mountains, as well as comfortable light clothes for the tropical north.

Packing List

Windproof jackets, warm pullovers, scarfs, gloves, sleeping bags, which stands temperatures below zero °C (even in the southern summer). Be sure to have enough proviant, when you travel Ruta 40, as the settlements in Patagonia are very scattered. Be prepared of quick weather changes, especially in the Andes mountains. Camping

What a silly question! Just the normal things... And a rain coat for BA if you go in their autumn! Nothing special. Don't forget your SmartMedia adapter! I did once... Devil of a job to find one out there - managed it, after two hours searching BA, about twenty shops, the help of a local friend, and forking out three times the price available in the UK!

Large Duffle with wheels is my prefered luggage as it holds so much and is easy to store. Light cotton mix clothing, smart/casual. Comfortable shoes and sandals. Sunscreen, 3 in 1 wipes to keep you fresh, and water. They have it all. Brazilian thong bikinis if your body is up to it and a sarong if you are not sure. (Ladies)

Backack - whatever type you're comfortable with. Wet weather clothes and cold weather clothes are needed for southern Argentina (Tierra del Fuego) all year round, but bear in mind that it gets especially cold in the winter months. I was there over Christmas/New Year and encountered snow on many occasions. Nothing special. Just take what you usually take. tent, sleeping bag (at least to 0 degrees) and cooking set are highly recommended for southern Argentina. There are many many places to use them. Also take cold weather gear and wet weather gear. This is recommendable all year round. North of Patagonia, take clothes that will keep you comfortable in extreme heat during the day - especially in summer.

Remember: that while we have Winter in the States Argentina is enjoying a very hot, very, very humid Summer; and, while it is Summer here it is a very cold Winter there due to the fact of the high humidity and winds; the cold seems to penetrated through everything. Just like traveling anyplace else be prepared for some rain, especially in the cooler months.
