You can buy it in the street or in the shops around Purmamarca square

What to buy: Traditional northern tapestries
I bought this little one in Purmamarca ($11 dollars), but you can find it in all Argentine northern provinces. (Mainly in Salta, Jujuy and Tucuman)

What to pay: From $15 dollars, depending on size

main square and shops: Purmamarca - shop till you drop

Northwest Argentina offers a lot of very original gifts to bring home for family, friends or yourself. To be honest in Purmamarca we found some very interesting opportunities for shopping.

First of all the handicraft fair around ‘Plaza 9 de Julio’, where local indigenous people are trying to sell their products - weavings and local crafts - from several stalls. Each day in the morning they have to set up their stall exposing their goods for the tourists and yes every night they have to load all goods on carts bringing them to their homes.
Especially the Andean weavings provide a very colourful scene on the sidewalks around the square.

Of course Purmamarca has shops selling the usual touristy stuff, but it has more to offer. At the plaza - next to Restaurant La Posta - is a very neat shop called Sury Artesanias, where Andean crafts of high quality are offered. We bought a couple of dolls in traditional costumes.

Just opposite the bus stop - corner Rivadavia and Libertad - is another very nice shop (sorry, but forgot the name) in combination with a small café. We were drinking our coffee and were very enthusiastic of the tablecloth on our table. It turned out this cloth was for sale and we decided to buy it for our home. They also do have a lot of silver and cardon (cactus) wood gifts.

At last I would recommend a kind of ‘artesanial’ shopping gallery for some (window) shopping. It is located along Sarmiento, between Lavalle and Florida. It had quite a number of more modern shops with just different souvenirs.

What to buy: Local Andean crafts.

What to pay: From 1 peso till .....

    Street sellers: Clay's crafts

You can buy clay's crafts everywhere in Jujuy, mainly street sellers or gift shops. In airport, too much expensive, avoid buying there.

What to buy: Crafts like you can see in picture

What to pay: $1 or $2 dollars each one
