Jauja: Best ice-cream in Argentina
No trip to El Bolson is complete without visiting Jauja, a combined cafe/restaurant, chocolaterie and heladeria. The food, especially the deserts here are excellent, and they also brew some delicious home made beer.
But Jauja is best-known for it's ice-cream said to be the best in Argentina. We've sampled plenty of it and it certainly tastes very good. All the ice-creams are made from organic milk, and they have speciality flavours such as Patagonian berries.
Jauju was our regular coffee stop in El Bolson. We also had dinner here one evening and while it was expensive, it was also one of the best meals of our trip. Trout is abundant in Patagonia, and Jauja had plenty of trout dishes on offer, two of which we tried. All washed down with an excellent Torrontes wine from the Cafayate region.
Jauja: Good Food, Great Ice Cream
Jauja has developed into a one-stop shopping experience. There is a restaurant, internet cafe, and souvenir shop. But the big draw here is their homemade ice creams. Lots of different varieties (it seems like more than half of which contain dulce de leche :).
