Cachi is a difficult enough place to reach by public transport. Only one bus a day travels up from Salta, and it leaves at 7am, not the most convenient time. It costs 25 pesos for a single ticket, and the company, Marcus Rueda, has offices in Salta's bus terminal.
The journey to Cachi takes 4.5 hours and along the way there is beautiful scenery, especially along the lovely Cuesta del Obispo, a switchback route up the mountains. There is one much-needed stop at approximately the halfway point where there is a small cafe. This bus journey is one of the most spectacular in Argentina - it's well worth having a window seat for the views.
