El Indio is the only company which runs buses between Salta and Cafayate, one of the most scenic routes in north-west Argentina.

There are 3 buses per day, leaving Salta at 7am, 1pm and 7pm, and the journey takes about 4 hours. There is a short 15 minute stop at the halfway point where you can buy food and drinks.

The scenery in the second half of the journey is excellent, as the bus winds its way through the Quebrada de las Concahs, where you can see some bizarre rock formations, which have been named after that which they resemble; look out for The Devil's Throat, The Toad, The Castles and The Amphitheatre. To see these properly you'll probably need to arrange a separate visit as you'll only catch a passing glimpse of them as the bus passes.

After leaving Cafayate we moved on to Tafi del Valle, four hours journey by bus to the south. There are two buses a day with Aconquija which pass through Tafi del Valle on route to Tucuman. The first bus leaves at 6am and that's the one we took. The route is very scenic, especially at that time of morning when the sunrise lights up the mountains.

The buses leave from the small terminal at the corner of General Guemes and Alvarado, and the cost is 17 pesos (as of 2007).

The five singles were transported in this area by a classic bus. Our drivers were excellent, the road sometimes hard
Impressive was seeing the Movi track passing by on the way above the clouds and driving direction to the "Salina grande"
All i know about this way of travelling is that a german travel buro is specialised in this way of traveling, In Argentina and Morroco, maybe in other countries aswell
