Cafayate, Restaurante Colorado: great food, great ambiance
by vtveen
!!!Restaurante Colorado is closed from November 2010 (see:http://staycafayate.blogspot.com/) !!!The first night of our stay in Cafayate we were looking for a restaurant on the base of reviews we had read. The first one - El Terruño - didn’t look too inviting and was still closed; most probably we as Northwest Europeans were too early. So we ended up in the second one: Restaurante Colorado. And this turned out to be an excellent choice:- first of all the extremely friendly and welcoming staff; the owners April and Charlie from the USA and the ‘local’ waiter Ramon;- the restaurant is rather small with a very attractive interior with comfortable chairs, beautiful decorations and lighting;- most important is the great food Colorado served. - although till yet our most expensive Argentinean diner, it still was very affordable for such great meals/evenings. Although very far from the sea, we...
Cachi - Oliver Café: one huge pizza was enough
by vtveen
Cachi didn’t offer too much restaurants (at least we couldn’t find them) and beside it we wanted our diner rather close to our hotel, which means somewhere around Plaza 9 de Julio. We found one, but didn’t like the menu, so we ended up at Oliver Café. It was a little bit too cold to sit outside and we had a table inside The interior of Oliver Café has a kind of rural magic with a lot of photo’s and paintings on the walls. It was just a pity being the only customers; most probably we were too early. The very friendly and helpful waiter recommended us just ONE pizza - custom made - for the both of us, as he told they were very BIG: and he was right. Together with some glasses of local white wine we had to pay the ‘ridiculous’ amount of 40 pesos !!!

Salta (San Lorenzo) – La Monumental: traditional Argentinian restaurant
by vtveen
It wasn’t very difficult to make a choice for our first diner in San Lorenzo, being a little bit tired after our flight from Buenos Aires and the sightseeing in San Lorenzo. It was obvious (and also recommended by the hosts of our B&B) it had to be La Monumental, just a stone’s throw away from Casa Hernández. We were rather early (for Argentina), but the restaurant was already open, although in the beginning with more waiters than guests. Miracle of miracles the restaurant as well as its terrace got more and more crowded during the evening. Monumental has a very extensive menu with all kinds of meal and even a lot of Italian dishes. With help of the friendly staff (and our dictionary) we decided for: Lasagne Carne, Lomo Stroganoff and Ensalade Mixta Especial. The food was very tasteful and we were very satisfied with our meals. No problem having diner again at our last night in San...
El Castillo de San Lorenzo: El Castillo de San Lorenzo
by Ekahau
Great Great Restaurant real world class. This restaurant is in an old “castle” built at the end of the last century, the Italian immigrant, Luigi Bartoletti, gunsmith by trade, who married a Saltanian lady of means who inherited this site of the Quebrada ("gorge-canyon") of San Lorenzo. The prosperity of the Bartolettis enabled them to erect this summer home in the style of an Italian "Castello". The architect, a certain Castagno, who had also come from northern Italy, directed the work
