Chalten Travel offers daily transfers to and from El Calafate to El Chalten around 3-4 times a day. This takes three hours one way and made a comfort stop at Hotel La Leona and cafe on the Ruta 40. It cost around 130 ARP (January 2010) for a round trip.

Travelling through southern Patagonia (either Argentina or Chile) seems to be endless.
The busses are quite comfortable, nevertheless, depending on the route you travel, it takes time.
If you go by bus from Rio Gallegos to Puerto Natales, the trip takes 6 hours.
But don't worry,, the tour bus operators think of the needs of their guests. So, they make stops every 2-3 hours, where you can "visit" the restrooms and get something to eat and drink.
Nevertheless, when busses cross borders, they also have to stop at the guaradia offices and drop information about the tour and the amount of travellers they have on board.
