Patagonia is a marvellous country.
But, it's well known or even famous for it's unpredictable weather - which on the other side adds to it's fascination.
Be prepared for a lot of rain !
Nevertheless, rain is usually announced by the typical clouds.
These ones, which I never saw before in my life, just started to grow in Rio Gallegos sky.
But don't these clouds look fascinating ? Just like balloons, pumped up with water :-)
Update: just learned that these clouds are called mammatus
Mammatus clouds
These are pouches, hanging underneath the base of cumulus or cumulonimbus clouds, hand have a cellular pattern.

If you are visiting southern South America on the argentine side, please be prepared for extreme winds, mainly east of the Patagonian Ice Caps.
The wind is building up quite heavy, it can reach peaks of 150 km/hr.
This is, as the "air" which moves from chilean rain forest area eastwards, is pretty much accelerated when blowing over the ice caps.
Tha't also the reason why you always see vanes at the mountain peaks.

Whenever you are backpacking and pitching your tent in Provincia Santa Cruz, please do not light up campfires.
The wind is just too mighty and unpredictable, so campfires might easily lead to forest fires.
Use cartridges, gasoline or ethyl alcohol stoves instead.
