move your bones buddy!! by Orkaena The west patagonia is very different of the dry inhospitable plateau and the seaside at the east . The west patagonia is plenty of mountains, forests, roaring rivers and lakes, a miracle of the nature So, if you like rafting through fast and limpid rivers, here you have your opportunity at the Corcovado river and the Carrenleufu river, two furious streams of water running from the top of Andean mountains to the east, looking for the South Atlantic among mountains and forests. Postcard from other times... by Orkaena Once time someone told me that horse riding -the horses indeed- is a balsam for our souls, a calming experience due to the proximity of this noble animals. But if you add to this mistic experience the opportunity to ride a horse in this environment you will find the most similar thing to the Nirvana... ;-D) Esquel is a countryside location, then you can take a horseriding at any time, heading to anyplace... life is good... by Orkaena Do you like trouts grilled, meanwhile your sight is lost in the woody fire, surrounded by the last lights of the evening? Time for fishing, here we have the perfect place, or almost. Rivers, lakes, you can do it from the shore, or on a boat, or simply floating like this guy on the picture, well... it is not the heaven, but is just beside... Leave a Comment

what a hell am I doing here? by Orkaena I told you so... Esquel is nailed among the mountains, then if you like climbing in any stiyle you have the whole arc of options. From the easy almost without an effort, to the most difficult just for experts. As a bonus you will step a clean environment, without pollution and lonely places. Just be respectful, keep your garbages with you until be back in town, then use the garbages recipients. You know, we wish to keep our Patagonia asi it is, for the future generations. Thanks a lot. La Trochita by Charlin_Baby This fantastic means of communication, well known affectionately as “the trail” (El Trochita) joins Ingeniero Jacobacci and Esquel sice 1945. Its railroad of narrow trail has only 75 cm wide. It travels through the Patagonia attracting admires from all parts of the globe. It is to fantastic attractiveness that has lots of anecdotes and leyends. Admires of vapor trains come here to make 402 kilometers, 626 curves, cross Chico River and a tunnel of 108 m, in this fabulous machine. Many years ago, The Old Patagonian Express used to carry wool and livestock of 25000 tons per year. But when alternative means of transports appear, lots of people stopped using it. Now, it only makes two trips, taking passengers and sometimes load. However, it is still very important for the Patagonia inhabitants that do not have any transport. And more even in winter, when snow covers the routs and this Old Express is the only way out: “Perhaps El Trochita takes an eternity by it always arrives”. Its locomotives of Mikado type where manufactured by Baldwin Locomotive Works in the United States and the Henchel of Germany in 1922. It was converted to Fuel Oil after the second World War, after 7 decades of use. Now, it hardly makes his journey of 14 hours. The boxcars, built by the Belgium factory Famillereux, are of the same time. The heating is obtained by means of salamanders that the passengers feed according to the climante and it is also used to heat water for mate, soup or even to make beef. For all the tourists that do not have time to go to Jacobacci, the Old Express has also a stop in Nahuel Pan Station, located at 20 km from Esquel and near to 259 National Route. Leave a Comment
