Ty Gwyn: Welsh Tea in Gaiman

Ty Gwyn

The advertising blurb in our cruise brochure tickled my taste buds with mention of a "Welsh Tea in Gaiman". This included what sounded like an enchanting display of Welsh choral music from a local choir.

Gaiman is a Welsh colony in the midst of Argentina and, as I have a lot of family in Wales, I couldn't resist the notion and signed up for the day trip.

Six months later I still wish I hadn't. A rickety old bus, with windows that were all but impossible to open (and, needless to say, no aircon), trundled along the dusty roads for the best part of two hours leaving us baking and parched by the time we got to this little village.

It's pretty, but by no means is it stunning.

Favorite Dish: We were served a good Welsh tea but by the time we arrived everyone was starving and parched with thirst and we devoured the food. It was very tasty though, and all was home made.

The choir sang for maybe 15 mins and, although they were good, they were a bit hard to believe in because some of them couldn't even speak English, never mind the Welsh they were singing in.

The building itself was very pretty indeed.

A small amount of souvenirs are available for purchase at the counter but don't expect anything spectacular.

Ty Gwyn (as you know, of course!) means "white house" in Welsh; it is one of the several tea houses that you can find in Gaiman. It is a beautiful, cozy, well decorated place, and the service is excellent; the kind waitress are dressed with typical Welsh costumes.

Favorite Dish: Welsh tea!!!! It is not only a simple tea... It is a complete meal!!! Sandwiches, scones, toast bread, butter, home made jam, several delicious cakes... Oh...!

¡¡¡Té galés!!!! No es solamente un simple té... ¡¡¡Es una comida completa!!! Sandwiches, scones, tostadas, manteca, mermeladas caseras, varias tortas deliciosas... ¡Ah...!
