Mutunbaa: Hip New African Fusion Restaurant in Buenos Aires

by dibenjamin

Mutunbaa is a gorgeous restaurant that has just opened on Callao in Barrio Norte. I was walking past a few days ago and was immediately attracted by the zebra patterned couches. So last night I went back. The space the restaurant occupies is large, and has three levels. On the first level there's a bar and lounge, and an art gallery with African art.The lights are low. The walls are ebony and red. There are African masks and sculptures, and a large iron chandelier is suspended from the second-level ceiling with a rope, a rough touch in a very modern and refined ambiance. The food has African elements, and elements from other countries as well. I had the chicken tandoori which came with special rice with raisins and spices. My husband had lomo (sirloin) with peanut sauce. The service was friendly and helpful, and the people who work there speak Portuguese and English in addition to...

BUENOS AIRES : TRADITIONAL CORNER BAR-CAFÉS

by swesn

The bar-cafe culture is a quintessential aspect of Buenos Aires. All over are these traditional bars-cum-cafes which are usually located at the corners of streets. While many have closed, the few which remain are, to me, thoroughly charming. They have high ceilings, ancient iron-fans, antique lamp-shades shaped like flowers, old-style cash registers, black-and-white checkered floors and wooden tables and chairs. The most famous café is the pricey Café Tortoni along Avenida de Mayo and there is another lovely one, Confiteria Las Violetas along Avenida Rivadavia. The other one I like, not flashy at all, very understated but traditional in the simple sense, is La Giralda along Avenida Corrientes. Order 'submarino' and 'churros con dulce de leche'.La Defensa is also a lovely place to walk and discover some of these tiny unassuming bar-cafes. My favourite one in this area is Bar Seddon.For...

Gambrinus: Great steaks, superb pasta

by theworldnomad

This local place is packed at lunchtime with busy office workers, althogh this is really far away from downtown. The dinner time is more relaxed with families scattered around the big tables and some couples having a romantic dinner. The place is a neighborhood oldie, although it has changed owners the decorations and style is still the same. They serve Quilmes beer on tab only and it's menu has an arrange of German foods, steaks, milanesas and seafood. My all times favourite is the: Bife de Chorizo Mariposa con Papas fritas a caballo. OK, let me translate this for you, this is a sirloin steak open cut (with a buterfly shape) cooked Meddium well served over fried potatoes and topped with 2 fried eggs.... Its just as delicious as it sounds. good to share.

The Salad Bar, Florida Street: Fresh and healthy

by AlettaCrofton

The Salad Bar makes a nice change from all the rich delacacies usually consumed on holidays. At this salad bar one can choose the bread, topping and salad and 'create' one's own plate. Fresh chicken roll with salads

Buenos Aires: Filo: Cheap and better than all the rest!

by mohashimoto

On arriving, we were stricken by its location. It sits in a dark, empty street, away from the glamour of the shops. To make matters worse, the ambience of the restaurant is a bit weird: lots of faded schizophrenic colours, a statue in lingerie peeking at the entrance, kinda gothic waitresses. But the pasta is one of the best I have ever eaten! The appetizer consists of bruschettas (with spicy, fresh tomatoes) and bread. Ask for olive oil and salt, otherwise you will eat your bread dry.The dishes are small, so you'd better order a dish for each person. The sauces there are incredible, mainly the ones which have fresh tomatoes. The pesto sauce is good, but not as good as the tomato sauce. All pasta is grano duro.Filo is a must go, much better than La Parolaccia or Broccolino. And it's cheaper.Lovers of pasta, rejoice!

Casa Cruz: The best steak in BA

by Stefaliscious

Heard about the steak in Argentina? Known for having the best steak in the World, this city is sprawling with restaurants attempting to out-do one another. Unfortunately the service here is fair, at best. Casa Cruz has topped my list for fine dining in BA, and I have made my way around the restaurants in this city. Immaculate service, incredible food cooked perfectly each time, extensive wine list, multi-lingual staff, beautiful decor, a favorite of the Argentine upper class... This restaurant was worth every second and every centavo... bife a la plancha - filet (upwards of 10oz) consider sharing so you can indulge in all of the courses, from champana to cafe to dulce...

Parrilla al Carbon: Literally a "mom & pop" restaurant!

by loboviejo

This is one of those places that most of us ignor. It is not in a "fashionable" area of town. It is not filled with people who are trying to impress others. It is rather small, crowded with tables, perhaps a little dark. Yet.....I first stepped into this place mainly because the "Daily Specials" seemed too good to be true. As I sat down, a well-dressed gentleman next to me was paying his bill, and I over-heard him tell the waitress that the steak he ordered was the "best in all of Buenos Aires"! After she left, I asked the gentleman if he could recommend anything special on the menu. "Yes," he said....and told me about the "bife de chorizo". He went on to explain that he was a bank official, and ate lunch almost daily in some of the finest restaurants in Buenos Aires...staffed with waiters...table cloths....etc...usually paid for by his clients. His usual tab was over $60 pesos (about 20...

Cabana Las Lilas: All about the steaks.

by crazygal59

This restaurant is situated in an old warehouse, along the river front, in the area of Puerto Madero. There are dozens of these warehouses and they have all been turned into restaurants and all have patio dining also. We could not believe how busy this area was. We were here to eat twice. We had such fun the first time we came back again with friends. Lovely place to walk along after dinner. For sure the steak which is all cooked behind glass where you can watch. Great antipasto also. A huge wine selection.

La Vinca Atada: Candlelight dinner

by kyoub

We had a candlelight dinner at the LaVinca Atada restaurant in La Calafate. This was not an expensive/romantic dinner as you might think. It was candellight because the electricity went out right after we were seated. We thought perhaps they could not cook for us but they did it quite well. We especially liked the fried cheese and wine before our meal arrived.Hubby had another large steak and I had Hake fish that was very good.

Kuar: Waters edge

by kyoub

A short drive outside town, right by the sea. They start serving dinner at 6:30 which is great for us early diners or if you have hungry children. The service was very good. I didn't get what I ordered but other than that no problem. Good spinach salad and seafood. My hubby liked his lamb and lentils.
