There is no need to mention...

by daBertl

There is no need to mention one restaurant in particular. Just enjoy argentine cuisine and the pleasureful and traditional way of service. Check out any 'Parilla', kind of a staekhouse and enjoy the great beef of the pampas. Whate else you defenitely must eat, as long as you are not vegetarian since such will have quite a problem in Argentina where poeple basically eat everything of a cow, is 'Empanadas' kind of meat pastries, 'Moricillas' (blood sausage) and a must is 'Bife de chorizo' - the best meat you ever had! My favorite menu would start with a Morcilla with an argentine beer, Quilmes of course, after that a Tira de Asado and defenitely pancheques con dulce de leche as dessert.

Lo RafaelPlaza MayorProsciuttoLa MaríaLas NazarenasEl ImparcialPlaza EspañaCampo di FioreLolaVictoriaLa ParolacciaThe atmosphere is excellent and the attention to the customer is very good. But don´t forget to take a translator! Many people here don´t speak english. Most restaurants have international cooking and Buenos Aires is very well-known by our gastronomicitems. Don´t forget to taste a good 'parrillada'(our national meal, composed by a barbacue with meat of very good quality and well- cooked organs, like chorizos, mollejas, chinchulines, riñones, etc.)(Sorry, but I don´t know the english words, because is typical from here!)

Annabella's Restaurant Tip

by Annabella

This country is a steak lover's paradise. You really can't go wrong here. Try 'milanesa', a thin, breaded veal or beef steak (also sometimes available with chicken). Since the country is about 1/2 Italian ancestry, there is plenty of pasta available. Particularly popular is gnocchi, which they spell noquies (with the tilde). There is also a gelatinous type of dessert made a variety of things dulce de membrillo (quince), dulce de batata (sweet potato, my favorite), etc. that is usually eaten with a very mild cheese. And they eat everything with 'dulce de leche', a caramel like substance.

It's nonsense to recommend a restaurant in Buenos aIres and I would think in all of Argentina as well. You can stpe in any place even if it's a joint and you will eat right. However let me share my experiences, La Chacra is kind of a fancy not-so-expensive restaurant (well, my wife, another personand me spent 75 USD in a big meal with wine and all the trimmings. The best meat, according to what they todl me, comes from Santa Fe and the cows are fed there a lot better than some of us, so the beef is tender, juicy, blood red.Do yourself a favor, ask for a medium term. It would be a pitty to get even 3/4 cooked. BIFE DE CHORIZO and of course the BIFE DE LOMO.you got it right there. Even though there is fine seafood and of course delicious 'pastas', the meat is what makes Argetina one of the best countries when it comes to local cuisine. Also, try Grants, for 10 bucks you got buffet of chinese,...

by Garri

There are many Parrillas everywhere in the country with really good beef. Now, in Buenos Aires you can find many etnic restaurants. There is a good parrilla in Buenos Aires. The name is Desnivel and is in San Telmo. Prices are ok.As I said. The prices are good and you can eat very well. El asado( barbecue) You can have it at the parrillas.

Beef is still the specialty...

by Luis_Alberto

Beef is still the specialty here, 'El Palacio de las papas fritas', excellent value for your money. Besides this, pasta and plenty of it. Do not forget to go to 'El barrio de la Recoleta', close to the Cementery by the same name, (also a great visit to this great old Cementery) reminds you of 'Peire Lachaise' in Paris. In the Recoleta area, they are some famous Tea, Coffee houses, they have been around since the start of the tweinteh century. A place to see and be seen. Steaks, steaks, steaks, but if you are vegetarian?, what are you doing in Argentina, anyway?, (no, just kidding!). I was there a few years ago, and I am sure by now, there is plenty of International Restaurants, as well as your usual fast food joints.

by Cryp

I'm vegetarian and I know, this is not the best place for it. My favourite restaurant is Puerto Sorrento in Puerto Madero. Any menu is really good and maybe the deserts are not so good but you can go to Freddo for an ice cream.

by mike_dolan

Buenos Aires has a good range of restaurants. However, the more southerly you go, there are less and less restaurants to choose from/. Argentina is not a gourmet's heaven, although it is a lot better than Brazil which is very disappointing in this regard. It has to be meat - the Argentinians love to eat roasted meats - not for the vegetarians out there.

by scanlancb

I have to say, after living in Bs.As. I started to really crave other foods besides the 3p's - pizza, pasta, parrilla. There are two restuarants called Big Momma's in Recoleta, quite expensive, but also a great condiment store if you haven't found certain things at the supermarket.the atmosphere and the condiments section I enjoyed everything I had there.
