Sirop: Excellent French Food in Buenos Aires
Sirop is one of those gem-like places that I do not like to reveal for fear that soon it'll be impossible to get a table. It's a small space (2 rooms) with a spare, almost Japanese decor. There are dark wood shelves on one wall with miminalist glass vases. The opposite wall is covered with a vertical orange and white striped wallpaper. There are 2 blackboards, one with wines by the glass, the other has the specials of the day. To give you some idea, tonight it was fish in a curry sauce and ossobucco. The wines are $7 or $8 pesos. We shared the ratatouille 'triangles' in phyllo pastry with ginger sauce -- que rico! -- really delicious. I had the braised short ribs with sweet potato puree (studded with walnuts). This is a rainy fall (April) night and it was perfect. My husband had fish with a crispy potato garnish. We skipped dessert this time but one of the desserts is a creme brulee...
