Acabar: Board Games after Dinner

by reon80

This restaurant has amazing food, presented to you on a stack of cards instead of in a menu. But it´s really the atmosphere that makes this place great--awesome decor, a selection of board games to play while you wait, and just a generally fun place! Not too expensive either--try it out when you have a lot of time to hang out with your friends!

Cumana: Cheap and Delicious!

by reon80

This restaurant has fantastic food at really low prices--5 pesos will buy you a "cazuela" (a baked bowl of veggies or meat or any combination of things! check out the menu for more info) or a FANTASTIC salad! And the pizza is wonderful! Don´t go right at dinnertime, there´s ALWAYS a wait for this place--I guess that´s how you know its so great! Check out the Ensalada Cumana or the Cazuela de Calabaza, Choclo, y Queso--oh, did i forget to mention this restaurant is also great for vegetarians!

El Parrillon de Recoleta: Parrillon en Recoleta...

by bkathryn

Wandering around Recoleta in Buenos Aires the evening we arrived in 2001, we discovered any number of what looked like very good restaurants, all offering parilla or BBQ. We eventually decided on El Parrillon de Recoleta because it looked good, we could sit outside (a novelty coming from Ottawa in November) and the fellow on the sidewalk trying to draw people in spoke English! Turned out he'd recently returned to Buenos Aires from London, England. We were hooked! We had a selection of barbecued items - suckling pig and pamplona (the local speciality) made with both chicken and beef, along with some very nice (small and crispy) french fries with either garlic or parsley.

Cabaña las lilas: Best BBQ in the world or at least the South!

by bkathryn

This place was fabulous for its food - wonderful Argentine grilled meat and vegetables. It was also fabulous for its service. In addition, it had a great wine cellar and made suitable recommendations. We liked it so much, we went twice in 10 days! Beef, grilled onion, mushrooms, puffed potatoes (papas souflées).

Meat

by mariquita

Argentina is famous for its meat and meat is what you mostly get in traditional restaurants. I am a meat lover, so I enjoyed almost every meal in Argentina, even if I had somehow imagined it would be even better. Of course, we were to some eateries where food was crap, but I was surprised for the general good quality and variety of restaurants in Buenos Aires.

Freddo: Ice Cream!!!!

by reon80

Freddo is a chain of heladerias, ice cream shoppes, and is only one of COUNTLESS ice heladerias you can choose from in Argentina. The ice cream in Argentina is honestly the best Iýve had anywhere in the world, even beating out the famous Italian ice creams! Make sure you try it at least a handful of times so you can sample the full range of flavors! Everything from your basic chocolate and strawberry (frutilla) to sambayon (a buttercream whiskey type of mix) and other exotic flavors! GREAT times! Also its cheap! One USD will buy you a cone with two HUGE scoops of your favorite flavors! I suggest taking it to a park and strolling around with your ice cream--its close to heaven!

Royal Cocina: Tenador libre, what a great invention!

by reon80

WOW, what a fantastic restaurant! Tenador libre is literally translated as ´´free fork´´ and means a huge buffet! For 7 pesos (about $2 US) during the day or 14 pesos at night and on weekends, you can eat as much Chinese, Italian, Mexican, American, and, of course, Argentinian food as you can stomach! And save room for dessert, because the Argentine ice cream is the best in the world! Don´t even argue with me unless you´ve tried it! This place is wonderful and a great deal, plus a bit fancy. And, in the grand tradition of Argentinian restaurants, you can stay and chat as long as you want afterwards, and maybe have some more ice cream! A great social experience! Argentinian beef, asado style!

Fast Food: Puerto Iguazu : Eat per kilo ! Mangez par kilo !

by Maillekeul

You'll quickly get full here ! You can eat whatever you want (from meat, to omelet and vegetables...), except dessert, and you will pay a price according to the weight of your food... ! And for 9 pesos (3 USD) a kilo, you can eat a lot...On est rapidement repu ici ! On mage ce que l'on veut (de la viande a l'omelette en passant par tous les legumes), sauf les desserts, et on paie au kilo ! Autant dire qu'a 9 pesos (3 USD) le kilo, on mange beaucoup...Favorite Dish: The Milanesa (sort of toasted meat) !La milanaise !
