There are many teams at first division; the most famous are from Buenos Aires: River Plate and Boca Juniors; both teams have impressive stadiums in Buenos Aires, but there are some other important teams and stadium all over the country.
El fútbol es una pasión nacional (aunque los argentinos destacan en varios deportes). ¿Quién es el máximo ídolo del fútbol? Diego Armando Maradona, también conocido como "la mano de Dios". Este polémico pero genial jugador nació en Buenos Aires (Argentina) en 1960; jugó en su país y en Euroapa (es un héroe en Nápoles!) y fue Campeón Mundial con la Selección Argentina.

Boca Juniors are one of the most famous and successful football clubs in the world. They have won the Copa Libertadores six times and been World Club Champions three times. Their notable players have included Gabriel Batistuta, Diego Maradona, Juan Román Riquelme, Martin Palermo and Carlos Tévez. Maradona has his own seat at the stadium and can be seen at all of their big games.
The home of Boca Juniors is officially called the Alberto J. Armando Stadium, but everybody knows it as La Bombonera. It's in the La Boca barrio of Buenos Aires and has a capacity of around 60,000. Nearly all tickets are taken by socios (season ticket holders) so if you want to go to a game it is best to go with an agency, such as Go Football (see Other Contact below). They advertise at all the hotels and hostels in the city. You will have to pay more than the face value of the ticket, but they will transport you to and from the stadium in a minibus and an English-speaking guide will go inside with you. I paid A$200 for my ticket and transfer and it was definitely worth it.
Boca fans, nicknamed Xeneises (the Genoese), are said to be the most passionate in the world and the atmosphere at games is incredible, with bands playing, spectacular tickertape welcomes, fireworks, flares and non-stop singing. If you are lucky enough to be in Buenos Aires for a Superclásico - the big local derby game with River Plate - then you will see the most intense atmosphere in the whole world of sport. Several times, I was invited to play the ever popular game in Argentina, Paddle. It is a cross between racquetball and tennis. You hit a tennis ball with an over-sized paddle, similar to a ping pong paddle, there is a lined court and net like tennis, but walls like racquetball. Service is cross-court like tennis. Your cross-net hit must land in the playing field, but your subsequent return can be played off of your own walls like racquetball.
Invite a friend/local to play, or ask them if there is a place nearby. It is a good, cheap way to break a sweat and to socialize with your friends!
The game is becoming less common due to city growth and cost of the facilities. But it is nonetheless a popular past time. If you are in the outer suburbs or smaller towns, facilities will be easier to find than in Bs.As. for example.

 Table 'foosball' Argentinian

As I am an avid table foosball fan, I could not resist but take a picture of this lovely metal table foosball.
It was in one of the gaming arcades that I wandered into. I've never seen such a table as the tables I'm used to playing is a Tornado T2000 table which are made out of a lot of wood.
Well I did try to play alone.... lol. It was no fun to play alone. So, this goes into my collection of strange foosball tables.

Games are played either Saturday or Sunday depending on the team and their schedule. The best stadium for the atmosphere in my opinion is the Boca Juniors stadium, which is affectionately called "La Bombonera". Second would be Racing's stadium and third River Plate's stadium.
If you have never been to a game in Argentina, I would highly suggest using a tour service such at Gofootball(www.gofootball.com.ar). I've used them on 3 different occasions and have been very satisfied. Cost is between $100 Pesos - $120 Pesos. A few of the big rivalry games are more like the Boca vs. River game.
