Perito Moreno

by RobyG

From El Calafate you can easily book a tour to Perito Moreno. If you better decide to rent a car there is AVIS that offers good prices for proper cars.It is not hard at all to drive and roads are quite good. You should take Provincial Route Nº 11, that connects El Calafate with Punta Bandera. A few kilometers before getting there, there is a road toward Magallanes Peninsula leading to the footbridges in front of the glacier. You can then decide to come back or even ask to continue your trip (preferably the day after ) for a nice boat trip in Puerto Madryn

Funny nites in "El Calafate"

by RobyG

A nice stop in El Calafate is an incumbent suggestion to give to you! The town is very well organized for tourism and in spite of the impressive presence of tourists you can still feel the charming atmosphere characterizing all the Patagonia. Night live is busy during all the year and even more in the pick months. Bar, Pub and few discoteques keep alive the slow passing time of the end of America.Don't miss the "Bife the lomo" at "Sancho".. that's a great restaurant the serves an amazing staffed beaf with a good quality of Argentinas and Chile wines

Something for Everyone.

by crazygal59

Visit the flea market in San Telmo, which is held every Sunday. All the streets in that area are closed to traffic on this day and there is truly something for everyone. We spent the whole morning there and stopped for coffee. Lots of fun.

Tour of the city

by jdpfu

On the 1st day, take a paid tour of the city to get your bearings. This will introduce you to the different barrios, where to shop, where the government stuff is, Tango, and Futbal (probably only 1 team since your guide will certainly forget the other 10+ teams exist).

Artists Delight.

by crazygal59

You want to visit La Boca area of the city for sure. This is one of the most picturesque neighborhoods in the city, filled with muti-colored houses, inherited from a strong Italian immigration. This is a very bohemian area known for it's artists. Great chance to pick up some fun art work.

Day 4 - A walk before lunch

by TheWanderingCamel

Standing 67 metres high, the white spear of El Obelisco at the junction of Avenida 9 de Julio and Avenida Corrientes is an unmistakable Buenos Aires landmark and an iconic symbol of the city. Cars swirl around and past it in a constant stream and crossing the road here is not for the faint-hearted. Locals like to tell you Avenida 9 de Julio is the world's widest street - they could be right. It's as wide as two full city blocks and has 12 traffic lanes. Four blocks south of El Obelisco is Avenida de Mayo, not as wide but certainly Buenos Aires' most beautiful boulevard, lined with some of the city's best examples of Art Nouveau and Art Deco buildings (photo 2). Walking here, you can really appreciate the wealth Argentina enjoyed in the early years of the 20th century (and wonder how it all went wrong). Avenida de Mayo leads up to Plaza del Congreso, the long square dominated by the...

Day 1 - Lazy afternoon

by TheWanderingCamel

After a Sunday morning trawling the antique stalls of Buenos Aires' Feria San Telmo followed by lunch in a great bar, all Art Nouveau carved wood and stained glass, why not make your way to Recoleta, another favourite place of Portenos to see and be seen. This is Barrio Norte, an enclave of expensive apartments and exclusive shops - and home to one of the world's great cemeteries - the Cemeterio de Recoleta (photo 1) - whose most notorious "resident" is Maria Eva Duerte de Peron - aka Evita - but her family mausoleum is a very dull affair when compared to many of the tombs found here (photo 2). The wide avenues and narrow alleys, all lined with an amazing assortment of mausolea, are a great place for a post-prandial stroll but for, a great overview of the statues and adornments of the tombs, be sure to visit the museum in the cloisters of the Basilica Nuestra Senora de Pilar next door...

Day 2 - Hub of the city

by TheWanderingCamel

The first place you should head for when sight-seeing in Buenos Aires' city centre really should be the Plaza de Mayo. Ever since it was laid out in 1580 it has been the the heart of the city. This is where you'll find the Cabildo (photo 1), one of the oldest buildings in all BA, dating back to the late 1500s. Once the city's Council Chamber, it's a museum now. Be sure to visit the pretty little patio at the back.At the other end of the Plaza, the Casa Rosada is the Presidential Palace. Built in the 1880s. The virulent pink facade is a careful reconstruction of the the 19th century colour, originally a mix of oxblood and whitewash. Modern chemicals have probably produced the current tint. The balcony has been the platform for crowd-stirring addresses by Evita, Peron, Galtieri and - somewhat less politically - Maradona. The Plaza takes its name from the day (May 25 1810) tht saw the end...

Gauchos, Horseback Riding, BBQ, Wine

by lovinoz

This is NOT to be missed whilst in Argentina!! We spent the day at Enrique's farm and it was one of our favorite days out of the whole year of travelling!! The farm is located 40km from Salta. We were greeted with a gourmet breakfast upon arrival.Half day of horseback riding - they have many well trained horses for all different levels of riders. I am a beginner but somehow they matched me up with the perfect horse so I felt like a pro. :)After the riding we had worked up an appetite and just in time for our first experience of an authentic Argentinian asado (BBQ)!! Now I've lived in Australia for 4 years and they have great BBQs but Argentina does it better!! The steak was to die for, not to mention all of the other goodies on the table! They had unlimited food and red wine include in the package price. Also, the owner and his 3 sons brought out instruments and played and sang for us....
