Ushuia is very quiet place. Not smoking friendly and mean cigarettes . only bar i found allowing smoking is irish bar called originally!! the dubliner. casinos charge lot more for beer. Still better than rio grande up the road as that is quietsville. Not bad place to visit for short time but would not spend week there. Whenever you want to come wrap up warm as wind can be ferociosly cold.

In the world's most southern city, it's no surprise to find the world's most southern Irish bar. The Galway wins this accolade, beating the Dublin pub by only half a block!
Like many Irish pubs outside Ireland, it's overpriced and not particularly Irish. However, it does seem to attract a good crowd, and if you can grab a seat by the window there are great views of the Beagle Channel, from where ships to Antarctica depart.
We spent 5 days in Ushuaia over Christmas 2007 after returning for our trip to Antarctica, and we ended up in the Galway most evenings.

During summertime, the daylight lasts a lot; dawn is about 5:00 AM and dusk about 10:30 PM, so the nighttime is quite short (practically I did not see it!); there are some pubs and discos, but after hiking, trekking, rowing, and much more, you only want a hot bath and a bed!

Q: Does anyone have a recommendation for a photography guide? I would like to go out at sunrise. Thanks, Pat

A: Are you referring to a guide who takes you to various places or a book telling you how to take pictures?
