Yachts by andal13 If you have a yacht (that is not my case!), you can sail here, because Ushuaia has a sporty dock (besides the commercial port). Many yachts can be seen at Ushuaia Bay, and there are many shipping lanes to the surrounding islands.
You just need a yacht! ¡Tan sólo necesitan un yate! Leave a Comment Theme: Boating/SailingAddress: Maipú Av. & Belgrano St.

The mountains (from the plane) by andal13 Ushuaia is sourrounded by mountains, so climbing is a common sport activity (here is called andinismo); of course, you need a guide for this activity, and several companies guive the service. You can check the "Club Andino Ushuaia" web page for more information. Trekking path by andal13 Well, this sport activity is cheaper than the previous ones! Trekking is free, and Ushuaia has a lot of places where to hike (especially at Tierra del Fuego National Park and Martial Mountains). The picture shows a trekking path close to Martial Glacier.
You will need good trekking boots (or similar shoes). Forget your stilettos! necesitarán buenas botas de trekking (o zapatos similares). ¡Olvídense de los tacos aguja! Leave a Comment Theme: Hiking

Kayaking at Beagle by andal13 Ushuaia is located at Beagle Canal, so it is a perfect place to water sports (although it is a little cold!) Kayaking is practising here in summertime. Enlarge the picture to see the two men in their kayaks (it was raining a lot that morning!) Martial Glacier by andal13 Ushuaia has a long and snowy winter, so winter sports lovers find a paradise here. There are ski runs at Martial Mountains (quite close to the city), and Encerrada Bay freezes, so you can ice-skate there.
You need some skill and a lot of courage! Leave a Comment Theme: Skiing/SnowboardingDirections: I took the picture during summertime, so I almost did not find snow; this is a part of the Martial Glacier.

by galy Two alpine ski areas, each with one principal and one beginner lift, are located very close to Ushuaia. The CAU offers skiing at the northwest edge of the city on a run named Wolfgang Wallner in honor of one of the founding members of the Club. The other ski area, Glacier El Martial, is located above Wallner in the bottom of a narrow valley, which leads to the Martial glacier. Wallner is clearly the locals' favorite place to ski. by galy Nordic skiing has grown quite popular in the area in the last several years. Ushuaia is, without question, the Nordic skiing capital of the continent. Low elevations and cold temperatures combine to make the spot ideal for Nordic training, and many international teams come to Ushuaia to train in the off-season. There are well over 100km of trails among the six developed ski centers. Jerman is the most wooded of all but is the only one that doesn't have trails that connect with the others. Tierra Mayor has the best-developed trail system and is the most popular. Not discussed are Altos del Valle, Valle de Los Huskies, Las Cotorras and Haruwen all of which offer a lodge and interconnecting trails. Other possibilities for skiing in the region abound. The best is probably at Lapataia where the CAU maintains a small refugio Leave a Comment Theme: Skiing/SnowboardingAddress: Club Andino Ushuaia Juana Fadul 50Phone: Tel/Fax: (0901) 22335

Alone or in company of a guide, will find the possibility to discover through this activity, a Land of the different Fire: marches that combine you disturb them, dense forests and ascents to impressive viewpoints. It is possible to organize walks for all the degrees of demand, apt from circuits to carry out in family to crossings of several days for the most adventurous. A variant one more is the one that permits to combine different disciplines inside the National Park or to travel through the system of valleys in chain beyond the mounts Martial, sprinkled of gaps and flanked by imposing mountains and glacial
Though the ideal epoch to carry out these walks is in spring and summer, during the winter they adapt the circuits and the necessary team is modified: they add the racquets for snow, that are placed in the footwear to be displaced in irregular lands covers by the snow. Besides, them they traveled through they are but short, since in winter epoch the hours light are reduced.

by luzmaria Theres a chairlift, so you decide wether you climb through the ski track or take the lift. When you get to the shelter of club Andino de Ushuaia you find a trail by a brook ending at the base of the glacier. If you have equipment and experience in ice climbing you can climb the glacier, walk to the edge and see the valley of Andorra, mount Vinciguerra and Vinciguerra glacier. On the other side there is an amazing view of the Beagle Channel and of Ambarino and Hoste islands. Really worth looking and photographing. This walk on the ice is easy, with the steepest part at the beginning. You must be careful with crevasses, mainly in spring and winter, when ice bridges are weakest. In case you do not have equipment for ice climbing, you can climb the Black Canyon in the wide valley you see on the right from the base of the glacier after you get off the chairlift. At the highest part youll see an amphitheatre or circus from where you can see the mountains on Hoste island with its glaciers and the Beagle Channel. This circus was formed during the last glaciation in the last million years. To return, go back to the chairlift. If you Are not tired you can then walk to the city along the route and thus get some nice vistas of the city and the Beagle Channel.
