Alone or in company of a guide, will find the possibility to discover through this activity, a Land of the different Fire: marches that combine you disturb them, dense forests and ascents to impressive viewpoints. It is possible to organize walks for all the degrees of demand, apt from circuits to carry out in family to crossings of several days for the most adventurous. A variant one more is the one that permits to combine different disciplines inside the National Park or to travel through the system of valleys in chain beyond the mounts Martial, sprinkled of gaps and flanked by imposing mountains and glacial

Equipment: Though the ideal epoch to carry out these walks is in spring and summer, during the winter they adapt the circuits and the necessary team is modified: they add the racquets for snow, that are placed in the footwear to be displaced in irregular lands covers by the snow. Besides, them they traveled through they are but short, since in winter epoch the hours light are reduced.

Bahia Ensenada is a beautiful bay in the Tierra del Fuego national park. It is not too far away from Ushuaia, I guess about 10 km. The best way to go there is by taking a taxi. Alternatively, you can take the Tren del Fin del Mundo (a tourist train), but I do not recommend it (see my tip under Tourist traps). Bahia Ensenada is also a stop for some day cruises in the Beagle Channel.
There is a beautiful hike along the coast line. It starts at the car park and heads in eastern direction along the shore. It is easy to follow. The length of the track is about 10 km, but you can stop at any point and walk back how you came. There are also options for a circular tour (in that case, buy a good map).

Equipment: Bring good shoes and some food and drinks. And like everywhere in the Ushuaia region, reckon with sudden weather changes. And prepare for snowfall any time of the year.

Just outside Ushuaia, at about 5 km from the city center, there is a nice place to hike. It is called Glacier Martial. The hike starts with a chairlift ride (constructed in 1983); which is recommended as it is a quick way to skip a less interesting part of the track. Near the top station of the chairlift, there is a mountain restaurant that is a very good place to site and enjoy the beautiful landscape. The chairlift is used by skiers in winter time, though the only track (1.2 km long) did not seem to be very challenging.
The hike starts from the restaurant and goes uphill through the valley. The first part of the track is easy, as it is pretty flat and very clear where you should walk. At a certain point, the track becomes unstable and goes steep up the mountain to the toe of the galcier at 1,050 m. This second part does contribute to the experience, but without it the hike is still very good. There were many people doing the same hike on the day that I was there, which gave a comfortable feeling in case something would happen. Besides, my mobile phone had sufficiently strong signal in all places.

Equipment: Bring good shoes and reckon with VERY SUDDEN WEATHER CHANGES. Even on a beautiful summer day, it may start snowing all of a sudden.

Nordic skiing has grown quite popular in the area in the last several years. Ushuaia is, without question, the Nordic skiing capital of the continent. Low elevations and cold temperatures combine to make the spot ideal for Nordic training, and many international teams come to Ushuaia to train in the off-season. There are well over 100km of trails among the six developed ski centers. Jerman is the most wooded of all but is the only one that doesn't have trails that connect with the others. Tierra Mayor has the best-developed trail system and is the most popular. Not discussed are Altos del Valle, Valle de Los Huskies, Las Cotorras and Haruwen all of which offer a lodge and interconnecting trails. Other possibilities for skiing in the region abound. The best is probably at Lapataia where the CAU maintains a small refugio

Two alpine ski areas, each with one principal and one beginner lift, are located very close to Ushuaia. The CAU offers skiing at the northwest edge of the city on a run named Wolfgang Wallner in honor of one of the founding members of the Club. The other ski area, Glacier El Martial, is located above Wallner in the bottom of a narrow valley, which leads to the Martial glacier. Wallner is clearly the locals' favorite place to ski.

Ushuaia offers the possibility to dive in its crystalline waters in the middle of a quiet and colorful landscape. This fascinating sport is a new alternative if you dare dive in this cold place with a variety of submarine sceneries.

Diving should be planned between March and December, when Ushuaia presents optimum conditions, since solar activity is not so intense and permits a visibility of more than 15 meters.
Due to the water temperature between 0 °C and 4 °C it becomes necessary to wear a dry suit that you should learn to wear before immersion for a safer and more comfortable
dive.

Equipment: Navigating to the islands is very pleasant, since bays never freeze and you will be accompanied by the birds and delighted by the green tones of the islands.
