Inexpensive... not always

by pgba2004

In Mendoza they have 2 prices for everything: one for Argentinians and other one for "tourist" this apply everywhere; restaurants, stores, nightclubs. So make sure to ask for prices "before". Ask for prices before consuming or buying and be very sure in complain that it is too expensive, right away they will give onether price!!

"Fin del mundo" ex prisoners train

by Pierangelo

Incredible, but also in the Tierra del Fuego (the last frontier) you can find hordes of tourist. Like the Tierra del Fuego beavers, the turists here hav'nt a natural enemy so they are fat and numerous. Anycase they are the best business for the people living here, after the closing of almost all the facturies in 2001. The navigation of the Beagle channal is the best choise.

Hawkers inviting you into a restaurant get 1 peso

by cochinjew

When you are leisurely walking along, looking for a restaurant, more than once you are accosted by someone, standing in front of a restaurant, extolling the virtues of the food and telling you how cheap it is..what they dont tell you is that by the time you order the side dishes, the meal is more expensive than at a more elegant place If the restaurant has a person, usually a peruvian or bolivian immigrant, standing in front handing out pamphlet: La Posada de 1820 at San Martin Esq Tucuman is a good example, do not go in. Buenos Aires there are wonderful restaurants of world class quality which are reasonably priced. JUST WALK PAST THE RESTAURANT WITH IMMIGRANT WORKERS HANDING OUT A FALSE MENU.. Go find another restaurant. Buenos Aires, despite the difficult times, the restaurant scene has not suffered in kind. There are hundreds of good restaurants in Buenos Aires to suit all budgets.

Currency...be careful with the exchange rates!!!

by lolita2002

Some shops accept US dollars, but be careful with the exchange, as local currency changes daily you have to take care of ur money! Also you can exchange your dollars at "casas de Cambio" not at the banks. Keep ur eyes open, and take a calculator with U! Don´t be ashamed!

The tango is, unfortuantely, a very commercial activity in Buenos Aires. You can pay a fortune to see a Tango Show. If you really want to see a Tango Show it is best to visit small cafes and bars in San Telmo on a Sunday. You will see a great show and enjoy some of Argentina's magnificent wine for very little expense.

by michaelp42

Its probably Recoleta (in Buenos Aires), its full of rich American tourists... but having said that, i still love the place!! Its also got the cemetry, Eva Peron is in there somewhere! (A tip... go inside... turn left... then right at the next major 'road'... keep walking... and around ten rows of tombs later you'll find her!) If you keep away from Eva, you'll find lots of very peaceful corners of the cemetry. Its a great way to escape the madness that is sometimes BA! I love this tourist trap!

Be carefull when you take a taxi in Buenos Aires. I was lucky enough to travel with someone who knows the city. Because many taxi drivers tried to 'take a longer road to get to the place you asked for'.

Laguna Iberia/Colonia Carlos PelligriniThe Laguna Iberia is amazingly beautiful and well worth a visit, but if you come as an independant traveller make sure that you check all information in the hotels in Pelligrini - most of them charge a set price for bed and all meals, but it is cheaper to just take bed and breakfast and buy meals seperately (even in the same hotel!) Also ask around about the boat & horse tours before choosing, most of the hotels use the same guides but prices can double!

Really... I don't know. Maybe because usually I reauest all the info first, but maybe you could have a problem in big cities like Buenos Aires, but in the rest of the country the people is more simple.
