Coach is the only way to go...

by cybergenic

Coach is the most common means of transport around Argentina, actually the whole of South America. I travelled around Argentina by coach for 6 months and found that it is easy to buy coach tickets as you need them. You can usually get tickets right up to the final seconds before the coach leaves. The best way is to travel by night. There are hundreds of coach companies and a lot of them run from Terminal de omnibus. The Bus Terminal. There is usually one in every city. One of the biggest companies in Argentina is Andesmar. They are quite good to travel with. Their web site is http://www.andesmar.comIt is in Spanish but I guess you have to work out how to order tickets sooner or later :) But a word of warning !Do not depend on your coach to reach it's destination on time! Breakdowns are very common. I think maintenance is a thing of the past for the Argentinos. Admittadly, they always manage...

The Subte and the Colectivos

by reon80

In Buenos Aires, the public transportation is really good. The subte (subway) will take you from the city center outwards, but unfortunately only one line takes you across the other lines, so if you want to go North or South, its best to take the colectivos (city buses). The colectivos are really hard to figure out (REALLY hard, there seems to be no clear pattern where they go). Your best bet is to buy a Guia T, which is a little map book with all the bus routes, similar to the London A to Z. Or, ask a porteno (native of Buenos Aires) which bus you should take:) Once you figure it out though, you can get anywhere on public transportation for 70 to 80 centavos (about 25 cents USD!).

BUENOS AIRES : REMIS

by swesn

Remis taxis are safer and cheaper especially if you know you need a taxi in advance. There are REMIS companies spread all over the city where you can book in advance a remis taxi to take you to the airport or wherever. There is no meter but prices are fixed beforehand and will work out cheaper than a rogue taxi driving you all over the city.

BUENOS AIRES : BUS TICKET MACHINES PROVIDE CHANGE

by swesn

The most wonderful thing about Buenos Aires Transportation is that the machine provides CHANGE! Isn’t that great news? Most rides are 75 to 80 centavos. The buses run 24 hours too, although with less frequency in the wee hours. Compare this to most public transportations in major cities, like London, which stop by mid-night or so. Indeed, Buenos Aires is the city that never sleeps. The slight problem to the ticketing machine is that one needs to drop in the coins one by one and can be quite a delay when there is a crowd.

Ferry to Montevideo

by randychiara

the fastest way to go to Montevideo is to take the Buquebus.it's about 45 us dollars, which is A LOT comparing to Argentinian standardsbut still it's superfast and reliable.. it's just too cold on the inside.. the airconditioning is too high!

Bus to/from EZE and Buenos Aires

by mahzan

If you have plenty of time and do not want to spend around 30 pesos for taxi/shuttle, you can take the city bus (No86) from EZE that goes all the way to Buenos Aires (Plaza DeMayo). But the trip is a long one - about 90 minutes, and will cost you only 1.35pesos. The city bus stop is about 50meters outside the arrival terminal. To EZE, you can also take the No86 bus from the bus stop near Avenue De Mayo - but be sure to ask the driver if the bus is going to EZE since not all 86s buses go there. And the trip is also around 90 minutes - but will cost you only 1.50 pesos.

BUENOS AIRES : MANUEL TIENDA LEON

by swesn

The cheapest way to come from the EZE airport to the centre of Buenos Aires is to take the MANUEL TIENDA LEON buses. To depart from the centre of Buenos Aires for the EZE airport, go to the MANUEL TIENDA LEON office at Avenida Santa Fe 790, near the Plaza San Martin. Leaves every half-hour in either direction. If you buy directly from the office, it should be slightly cheaper (12 Arg Pesos), compared to buying the ticket from, say, your hostel.

LONG-DISTANCE BUSES

by swesn

Long-distance buses in Argentina are among the best evolved specimens here in South America. On some buses in Argentina, the seats recline until nearly horizontal. Some seats are as wide as Business Class airplane seats. Yet others have stewards to serve you dinner and breakfast.Excellent services. This is the cheaper way to travel around Argentina.

Crossing the Andes by bus from Chile

by hmoitta

I took a bus in Temuco( Chile) and went to Bariloche, crossing the Andes. It took us the whole day because the bus stopped a long time in customs (pic). But the view is amazing, full of lakes and mountains, even the view in the border where we had to wait was beautiful. And the price is cheap too.
