Las Castores: the best saltena in town!!

by JimmyShowtime Updated Mar 1, 2011

Las Castores has the best saltenas in Bolivia hands down. This is coming from a person with Bolivian Heritage who has been eating Saltena's since I was 2.

    They have two locations.
One on Avenida Pando, two blocks north of the Recolleta.
    The other in El Prado.

They offer many different choices of Saltenas. Three meats (chicken, beef, and pork)
Either Sweet(Dulce), Regular, Hot, and Very Hot.

    Every saltena there is amazing!!!
    They all cost 6bs
The hours of operation are 10am-2pm 7 days a week

The best advice is to get there before 12:30pm. They sell out of many of the best types of Saltena's.

You can sit down to eat or take out.

Favorite Dish: The two best are the Fricase(Mexican flavored pork) and Super Picante Beef.

Fricase is only available on the weekends.

Churrasqueria Tunari (Recolleta): Best Steak in Town!

by JimmyShowtime Written Mar 1, 2011

There are many steak houses here in Cochabamba including three of the biggest right next to each other! One of those three is the best and guess what? It's the one in the middle.. It's Tunari.. They have the best Filete de Lomo (tenderloin) in town .. It ranks in the top 5 steaks of all time. I am a huge steak eater, and I am not shy on dropping more than 50 USD on a good blue aged steak in some of the best steakhouses in America. At a jawdropping price of under 6 USD and weighing in at over 18 ounces, its the deal of century. The flavor, the grassfed beef, the cut, all perfect.

There Arroz con Queso, Yuca frita, and Plantains are outstanding(Just put some salt on the ACQ).
They also Have the best Flan I have ever had. Hands down..

Favorite Dish: Filete De Lomo (Cut, taste, grilled to savory perfection)
FLan ( Best I ever had)

  • Wist'upiku: Good Empanasas: Wist'upiku

by eternalvoyageur Written Mar 25, 2009

Empanadas are delicious, but only if you get them in the right place. Many cheap ones on the road (around 1 Boliviano) are dry and flat. Look around for better quality ones, they will cost a bit more but are absolutely worth the price difference !
The restaurant chain called Wist'upiku have quite good ones, for around 3,50 Boliviano's each. Drink some Api or Emoliente while you eat them !

La Estancia: Best Steaks in Town!

by Dwainde Written Oct 26, 2004

This is a steakhouse like none other you will ever find. Their meat platos are excellent, and you must absolutely try the arroz con queso and the fried yuca, both of which are stellar.

Favorite Dish: The filet mignon is the most tender cut of beef you'll ever buy.

    McDonalds: Fast Food in Cochabamba

by chancay Written Feb 17, 2003

    Mc Do

I don´t really want to recommend McDonalds, it was jsut crazy when McDonalds opened in Cocha. Although you can get a much more better "hamburgesa" at every corner the people ran to McDonalds to spend quite a lot money for this fast food. I´m not a McDonalds hater, sometimes I like to eat there, but in Cochabamba I always prefered to eat the cheaper and bigger hamburgesas. Nevertheless I wanted to mention it, also to show that Bolivia is a country with all kind of "modern life style" :-)
