  • Police will arrest you at night. They want $$

by Onejourney Written Mar 2, 2015

If you enjoy going to a bar at night, BEWARE. Police will arrest you for NO reason other than looking foreign, and being out at night. You will spend the night in jail, and be asked to pay exhorbitant amounts of money before they release you. What is worse... Police will keep part or all of your belongings, and never give you a receipt for anything.
Unless you are a non-drinker, and go to your hotel/hostal before nightine, foreigners are at risk of falling prey of the Police. I can see how this is very profitable for the Police Department.
AVOID this place if you can. Every single kiosk and service will rip you off. If you love your freedom, do not visit this place.

In the background of the picture you see a part of the city and more behind the hills where some Inca ruins are still to find as as well the "Horca del Inca" and the "Intiwatana". I am waiting here for the night to see the sunsets.

it is almost like the ocean: the lago Titicaca

The lake Titicaca seems to offer a beautiful beach resort, unfortunately the water is the whole year on too cold to take a bath. Besides it is quite windy here most of the time.
Nevertheless you can sit on the beach and listen to the waves.

On this hill from where you can observe so beautiful sunsets are the stations of the Cross. This is a in the 1950s built place as a second aim for the thousands of pilgrims who come every year to Copacabana. Pilgrims leave their gifts to the godnesses here as e.g. coca leaves or candles.

Sol Y Luna: there are some nice places for a coffee or drink

This was a funky little place with a slightly upscale menu though still reasonable. The also had a great cocktail menu and excellent gourmet coffees at very good prices. Nice lighting, atmosphere and even a book exchange.

La Catedral at dusk: sunsets are spectacular

One good thing about coming back from Cerro Calvario early was catching the cathedral at dusk. There might not be a plethora of nightlife in Copacabana but with light like this, who needs it?
