Fantastic, Marta is the bartender and owner. Kind and nice woman. Is not expensive, local music and around. There are rooms for dancing and others for a quiet conversation. Ancient building. No more. Over.

finally some decent java by richiecdisc This place looked so expensive from the outside, we nearly didn't go in but Doreen had gone to so many places with me, I figured it was time to try something she wanted to do. We had got burnt at another fancy cofee place in town, which served mediocre coffee at inflated prices. This place turned out to be cheaper and so much better. It has a true European flair for those missing such things in South America and the coffee and cake were out of this world too. Forums Anviersary 3 years ago by jailon Forum is without a doubt the most successful and arguably best nightclub in La Paz. You really haven't experienced the night life here if you haven't been to Forum. It's been around for well over a decade, which is pretty impressive considering most clubs come and go within a few months. The best, and most crowded, nights to go are Friday and Saturday, with a much lighter crowd on Wednesday and Thursday. On the weekend it's a virtual sea of bodies and it'll be an adventure moving from one end of the room to the next. The club has two levels, with the upstairs something of a long balcony. It can be difficult to get in after 11 PM, so if you want to be sure to get in and find a table (upstairs most likely, as most of the downstairs tables/couches are reserved for regulars) come at around 10 PM. If you always want to be assured entry, you can purchase club Membership for about $100 a year. That'll get you and a friend in without a wait, a shot at a reserved table, champagne on your birthday, etc. And if you buddy it up to the bouncers you'll be able to sneak in an entire entourage. My advice is Tip, Tip, Tip. The bouncers, waiters, bartenders, everyone. 100 B/s. is only around $13, but it's a mountain of cash to someone making Bolivian wages. Trust me, they WILL remember you, and your level/speed of service will increase exponentially. The music is an absolutely eclectic mix, from house to hip-hop, rock, salsa, merengue, techno, alternative - ANYTHING - all in one night. There's always a full range of ages too, from 40 year olds down to 15 year olds (how they get in is anyones guess). The main crowd is from about 27-16 though. Like I said before, you may get a big claustrophobic on a weekend, but for a MUCH smaller crowd, try it out on Wednesday or Thursday.
For the most part, the dress is Upscale Casual. A suit isn't out of place, but you'll be too hot and too constricted in no time once you get dancing. So dress well, but nothing too warm. There's a coatcheck in the entrance so don't worry about the outside cold. Just make sure you have stylish, good-breathing clothes underneath, 'cause you'll get HOT. Only the regulars and big spenders meander in with t-shirts and jeans on, so it's probably best not to tempt the bouncers taste in fashion. Also, definitely NO SNEAKERS. Make sure to visit the website once a week to see if you can find yourself in one of the posted pictures. You can get an idea off of the photos how people dress and there's also information on directions, events, membership, etc. Leave a Comment Theme: NightclubAddress: Calle Victor Sanjinés 2908Phone: 2413669Directions: It's a little ways uptown and out of the way. Tell any cabbie 'Forum' and he'll know how to get there. This is definitely the best way to go, as there's never enough (or safe) parking. Cabs are cheap, and always there.Website: www.forumproducciones.com

A nifty little bar. Good pre-club place or a fun place to go if you just want to sit around and chill for an evening. Music can be loud, but it's just a sit around the table and drink kind of place, no dancing that I've seen. Get in earlier, 9 PM or so, to get food. Their cheese and wine combo is excellent. Like all good nightspots, it gets crowded and impossible to find a table after 10:30 - 11 PM. You can call ahead to reserve a table, but I'm not sure of the number.
No dress code. All age groups as well (of drinking age) Leave a Comment Theme: Eating and DrinkingDirections: Uptown. If I recall, it's on 20 de Octubre, on the right. Past Plaza Abaroa.

Mongo's is extremely popular with backpackers and other foriegners. In any given night, you'll hear about 20 different languages here. It's not a terrible large place, so you may want to hit it up before 11 PM to make sure you can find a place to sit. It's a pub/bar type atmosphere, but gets very lively into the night. The food's OK, but really you want to go for the drinks and atmosphere. After 11:30, even the standing room is packed.
No dress code that I'm aware of. In general though, you don't want to try any bar or club in La Paz in shorts, a t-shirt, or ratty jeans. Mongo's is pretty mellow though, so it may not be a big deal of you're clearly a European backpacker checking out the sights. Leave a Comment Theme: Eating and DrinkingDirections: Uptown. Get on Ave. Arce, and drive till you pass the first major circle. Take the first left past the police station and you'll see a mural with a howling wolf on your left. It's on that small street. I suggest a cab.

by jailon The general theme here is a 'Sports Bar'. I guess it's because there's all sorts of racing memorabilia plastered onto the walls, and the tv sets around the place seem wired to the 24/7 'Racing Crashes' channel. A good place to dance, drink, and have a good time at though.
Upscale Casual. Avoid baseball caps and sneakers (or skate shoes). Dress as you'd go to a nightclub. Leave a Comment Theme: NightclubDirections: Probably one of the most conveniantly located nightclubs. It's right in the middle of San Miguel, on el calle Montenegro. For night life not folk!. If you want to know young people of La Paz, here is a description of the coolest places. Young people start the night going to dinner to some café or restaurant (7:00 pm to 10:00 pm) then they go to a Pub (10:00 pm to 1:00 am) and finally dancing (12:00 am to 3:00 am). Despite of the cold temperature, the night can be hot as you want. The nightlife is more intense on Fridays and Saturdays.

by pjallittle My pages don't include NIGHTLIFE as we generally just go for walks in the Evenings and have no interest in this particular area of travel. This kind of information is usually available either at the front desk of any hotel or the concierge in the posh hotels. As we are all different ages, likes and dislikes, best to use the VT provided links. Theme: Other

Britannia is a great pub on the main drag in Calacoto. It's right next to the Abracadabra restaurant, in fact they have a partnership, and you can get anything on the Abracadabra menu at Britannia. Very casual place, with a dart board, pool table, and whole host of ex-pats. Extremely friendly atmosphere, and home-base of the La Paz chapter of the Hash House Harriers. You can ask the owner and his wife, who usually tend the bar, who's organizing their next run and where. The HHH is a great way to meet new people, drink beer, and run in the highest Hash if the world (if you're so inclined; you can always just drink and walk). Absolutely everyone, all age groups/creeds/sexes/running speeds welcome. They usually have runs and gatherings a couple of Saturday's a month. Hell, I don't even run, go for the socializing! Check out their website for contact info.
No dress code, and the crowd is mostly older, 27+. Leave a Comment Theme: Eating and DrinkingDirections: On Ballivian, the main street in Calacoto, a few blocks up from the giant supermarket on 15th.Website: http://www.lapazhash.com/ for info on the Hash
