This was a real hole in the wall and though I was initially skeptical about eating cerviche (raw fish) in Bolivia, this place was worth the risk. It was very busy and only open for lunch so get there early.
You got a small bowl of cancha first off and then a bowl a what seemed a warm cerviche broth, which had a strong lime flavor. Then you got your cerviche and I had the Lake Titicaca trout. This is "cooked" only with the acid of the lime juice it is marinated in. When I went to pay my bill, the owner gave me a small shot of this very tart liquid. It was like the soup, but way more concentrated. It was really salty but it seemed to really finish off the meal well, and he motioned that it would make a man of me by grabbing his crotch and laughing. He then went about serving his food as usual. ;=> But hey, it was like two bucks for the whole meal so who can complain. The markets are great fun to walk around but nearly impossible to not eat somewhere. The women nearly grab you to get you into their places. It's actually kind of fun and though you feel a little out of place at first, they seem to enjoy having you there. We felt like we were in "Land of the Giants" a bit as they were all so small and so were the tables and benches. Also, try the street vendors. The egg sandwiches are great and I even had a steak, egg, burger. It's a bit greasy but a filling and cheap lunch. Besides, it's what the locals eat so give it a try.
The soups are generally always good, but don't get a blanco as that is just broth and a bit bland. Stick with the stew-like concoctions though the meat is a bit iffy. lol It's good as you can see everything and just point at what you want. There was a string of parillas just past Mercado Camacho on Avenida Simon Bolivar. We had gone to the market in hopes of eating there but it was already closed for the day. We kept walking and followed our noses to find these busy eateries, all with men in front maning their grills. It was a sight to behold and the smell would drive you crazy and into one of them if you were remotely hungry (and liked meat of course!).
They had steaks, ribs, chicken, pork and sausages. We had a combination plate which was served with fries, some kind of grits that were tasty too, and plaintains (fried banana type fruit). It was massive and a bit too much. Veer to the right on Avenida Camacho and keep going till after the market. They are on the right and you won't miss the smell.

Although not very Bolivian, if you have some spare money to blow, the Plaza Hotel is a good place to eat. I had a full meal including dessert and 2 drinks (coca cola though, wine might boost the bill) and it only cost me about $8. Expensive for Bolivia but it would've cost a lot more for the same anywhere else in the world. The view from the window is incredible especially at night when the whole city and it's sloping sides are light up at night.
It's all quite posh, but good food, there's not a hell of a lot for vegetarians though. They had one meal but i didn't fancy yet ANOTHER load of greens so I had some sort of chicken meal. While you are eating a nice dinner you see a magnificient show of folkloric bolivian dances. All the place is well decorated by paitings, masks, that make this place really interesting. I had the chance to realize to notice how beautiful is, since i`ve enjoyed my norwegian friends there. they were really impressive to be there. so i decided to make a tip about this place.
