Foetal llamas - Yes; Witches - NO

See the witches market! See all the witchcraft and voodoo spells!

WHERE!

I saw one stall with 'foetal llamas' and nothing much else.

A great local market - but WITCHES! - Nah

Unique Suggestions: A very good local market in La Paz for general shopping. Numerous music instrument shops.

Fun Alternatives: You can try another market but this one is local to the centre of town and readily accessible -just don't expect witches - or even potions.

Warning Travel agency at La Paz Airport

When arriving to La Paz International Airport beware of the travel agency inside the Ariport. They will charge you in advance for any reservation at higher prices. Eg. I payed 45 USD for a room in Hotel Rosario that was originally USD 37.00.

Also, the rate of the exchange house is lower than you will find at any other place... Also only they charge you a fee (Bs. 20) for the transaction.

They are cute, they are friendly, but please don't leave them money. This kids are sent by their mothers (who are often asking for money nearby). They park themselves in a cross street near Plaza Murillo. This picture was actually taken from the front door of Hotel Torino.

In some areas there is people who will trowh mustard (or something similar) in your back. They want to pick up your things while you try to see what's going on.

Allways change your money at your hotel or a travel agency. Sudamer (in camacho and loayza) will give you the better change rate. They accept any currency and Travelers checks.

The Valley of the Moon
I would consider this one almost as a tourist trap.
It is a small area, and -according to my opinion- the pics look more impressive then it was in reality !

Some more pics in the travelogue
