You have take take note of the danger that exists.
Cave in..... Not common, but cave in can happen and will kill you.
Air......The air is thick with dust and poison. Wear a mask and stay calm
Rails......Carts full of minerals whizz around the mine. Stay alert and move aside quickly
When I was there, one guy had a panic attack in the mine, another girl outside colapsed with shock and exhaustion

When visiting the mines be aware that the normal acclimatization to the thin air at more than 4000 meters above sea level does not mean that it is also good for a visit of the interior of Cerro Rico. As a normally tall tourist you can seldom walk or stand upright in the mountain and the atmosphere contains even less of oxygen than outside but quite a lot of methane, dust etc. so not even chewing coca leaves (the taste is not bad) helps you anything. But as soon as you are out in the open air again you will soon recover.

I spotted this shoeshine boy waiting in the plaza for potential victims and as I took my camera out to take a candid photo of him, he spotted me. I snapped quickly and made a run for it!
