Es curioso pero la sal cristaliza en grandes figuras de cinco o seis lados , que se ven en todo el salar

Smiling baby - Un bebe souriant

Next to the salt hotel of Atulchi, you may visit a small cavern where some mummies were discovered. Among them, a bucket, in which the mummified skeleton of a baby is resting. Yeah, kids should always be shut in buckets !!!

what can grow in the shade

amazing what a little shade can do

Perhaps the strangest sight out here is a brilliant green moss that manages to exist by growing on the southern "shady" side of the rocks. This cool and assumingly damper environment is conducive to the vegetation's growth in the most unlikely of places.

hm, not really cultural guidance, but I want to share this with you although I don´t have any numbers anymore. I had the chance to visit Bolivians in the salt production. It´s a very very hard work and very very very bad paid.
Imagine, all of you are consuming salt every day and paying very few money for it!

Nevertheless there´s a high value of salt for the people. Saw once a report about "salt producter" who travel with their Lamas from the salar de Uyuni to the Yungas (behind La Paz) to sell the salt. But it´s more a kind of changing, they give salt, others have got some vegetables for example. Monthes later they regress to their village with food for the rest of the year. It´s a very hard life.

Our guide prepared a meal of hot sweet potatoes, baked in the ground, which were prepared whilst we bathed at sunset in the hotsprings, oh and were they nice!
