    Comarapa Restaurants

Situated on the main street, just by the bus stop. The resaurant serves typical Bolivian fayre. A warming soup with meat and a potato, may be made from Otna, very tasty. Segundos are usually lots of carbohydrate , you may get potato, cassava, rice, uluca and platani on one plate with meat and a side salad. Senor Tito runs a very tidy hotel and...

People don't seem to know what this structure was, high in the mountains above Samaipata. Some say it was a fortress of some sort. Others claim it was a temple, and that the various little troughs that run around the old foundations were for making the blood flowing from the sacrifices flow away from the main traffic corridors.

It is thought to be the worlds largest carved stone.

It has now been declared a world heritage site, and therefore supposedly has a lot more tourist activity now than when I visited in 2001. At that time only two or three other people or groups of people were visiting, and one lone vendor of local crafts sat at a lonely post selling a small amount of hand made goods.

At that time, the road to get here was a nearly unmarked unpaved, and nearly ungraveled road. Today, I have been told that it is far more developed.

    San Javier Things to Do

A masterpiece of indigenous Baroque art, this colorful altar is interesting because it shows the interaction between the Jesuist and the indians. The whole mision was restored by the German architect Hans Roth using local craftsmen, creating a revival of local traditions and a qualified workforce. I visited some of the workshops in the mission of...

The town is located 137 miles (220 kms) from Santa Cruz, the road in these days are in bad condition so the journey can take almost four hours or more. There are differents ways of transport: 1) The scheduled Big Bus, comfortable but very slow, it stops in every town or stops where a passanger is waiting. 2)The mini vans, faster, the only thing is...

    San Javier Things to Do

Today San Xavier is a small and dusty town of 11,000 inhabitants and the first stop for the traveller who wants to make the Jesuitic Mission Circuit. So it´s a great place for hang out through the empty streets, or spend a nice afternoon in the park enjoying the Bolivian rural way of life.

The micros (mini-buses) a faster, good and cheap option, but you have to wait until all the car seats are taken (i spent two hours there waiting for the last empty seat) or the expensive taxis....
