Taverna Gattopardo: Tarija : Huuuuge ! Immense !

by Maillekeul

I have to be honest : this is the best and the cheapest place where we have eaten during our trip. First, it is so good, second it is enormous (we had to have two tables to put every meal we choosed), and, at last, it is cheap !!Je dois etre franc : c'est le meilleur et le moins cher des endroits ou nous ayions mange en Am-Sud. Un, c'est bon, deux, c'est enorme (on avait deux tables pour disposer tous nos plats) et trois, c'est pas cher. Imagine ; a "fondue bourguignonne" with the best meat, vegetables, fruits, french fries, a "Milaneza Rellena" (meat with ham and cheese inside) with french fries and vegertables, a bottle of red wine, un dessert, all this disposed on two tables.... Only 12 USD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!And what a nice place !Imaginez : une fondue bourguignonne, avec une viande de haute qualite, une assiette pleine de legumes, des fruits, des...

Tuko's cafe: Potosi : eating and surfing - Manger et surfer

by Maillekeul

A nice place to eat good meals and go on the internet after...Un endroit sympa pour bien manger et surfer sur le web apres... Pastas are greaaaaaaaat (but not on the menu, ask for them !)Les pates sont super (mais pas sur la carte, faut demander).

Cafe Cultural Kaypichu: Potosi : Good, though... Bon, mais...

by Maillekeul

The breakfast, as proposed on the menu, ssems to be very good : it may be, but it depends on who is cooking : if it is not the owner, you won't probably get what yuo expected...Le petit-dej, tel que propose sur la carte, a l'air bon : il peut l'etre, mais ca depend de qui cuisine : et si ce n'est pas la proprio, vous n'aurez certainement pas ce que vous pensiez obtenir... Test the API, typical drink of Bolivia !!Essayez l'Api, une boisson typique de Bolivie !!

Layq'a: My First Meal in Bolivia

by AlbuqRay

I ordered off the menu rather than the specials board and chose llama steak with cooked tomatoes and onions with crema de chuno (a soup with freeze-dried potatoes) for an appetizer. As it turned out, the servings of soup and llama steak were huge. The soup itself was enough for a meal. I was not able to finish everything, even though it was quite tasty, and hardly touched the delicious looking salad bar. I did manage to down some fried plantains from the salad bar for dessert. The soup was 22 Bs. and the llama steak 68 Bs. The latter included the salad bar. This is not cheap for Bolivia but the amount of food would have satisfied three people. BTW, llama steak is very lean, tasty, and I am sure, good for you.

Dona Eugenia: Traditional Soup with a Hot Rock

by AlbuqRay

I had read about this Potosi restaurant in the Rough Guide and wanted to try it (I had forgotten that it was Richiecdisc's favorite restaurant in Bolivia). I tried to walk to it the first evening (see below) but did not make it, so I asked to have lunch there on the tour the next day. The guide was surprised when I knew about it. BTW, Roberto Mendez was a great guide. He is a former miner and really knows his way around. That is him in the picture. See my General Tips for more about Roberto. See also Richiecdisc's General Tips on Potosi for good stories about Dona Eugenia. You can get the traditional maize soup, kala phurka, served with a hot rock in it to make it bubbling hot. There are sides of Inka hominy and red chile with it. All for 5 Bs.

Dona Eugenia: Outside of Dona Eugenia

by AlbuqRay

It is a long walk to Dona Eugenia from downtown Potosi. It is located out by the cemetery. I tried to walk from the Hotel Claudia the first evening I was in Potosi but gave up after 10 min. because I was not sure I was going the right way. I even asked several people, including a policeman. Most had not heard of it and my Spanish was not good enough to understand the one person I found who did know where it was. Turned out I was going the right way and just needed to walk 5 more minutes.

Dumbo's (Same name as Disney's flying elephant): Definitly Dumbo's in Cochabamba....

by kim83_50158

Definitly Dumbo's in Cochabamba. It is wonderful!! One of the Dumbo's has outdoor seating, as well as indoors. Half of my group sat inside and the other half outside (where I was) one night when we went for some ice cream. As it would turn out it was in the middle of the winter in the middle of the Andes! You don't do that very often! (eating icecream outside in the Andes in the winter, in case I wasn't clear)It feels very much like a European sidewalk cafe, though--the outdoor, bigger one. Dumbo's has the best Pique Macho(I think that's what it's called!). It has a special sauce, potatoes(somewhat hard to find there), vegetables, and meat. It's been a while since I've eaten it, but it's my favorite dish in the whole world(so far, anyway!). But be sure to share a plate because it is a huge serving(usually) and is VERY FILLING! Dumbo's also has very unique ice cream. My friends and I...
