I expected the kids at the ruins around Cuzco to ask for money to take their photo or even one of their pet llamas, but at least they were there to ask you first. On Isla del Sol, I saw some llamas that seemed to be on their own but after I snapped a photo, a kid came running out of nowhere trying to collect money! I just walked on quickly.

Unfortunately Bolivia does not have a great tourist infrastructure; thus, it is not easy to find information about organized tours. Here I have included some local tour services that are professional, reliable, and you can check on the web. All these companies offer tour packages for different destinations in Bolivia.

(LEFT) Be Careful! The World's most dangerous road resides in Bolivia, on the way to the Yungas Valley from La Paz. During heavy rains, many unlucky buses have plunged hundreds of feet to their passenger's death. Click on the picture to get a better view of the BUS under the waterfalls :P (RIGHT & CENTER) The Salar de Uyuni when it floods TOO much.

  • There is this place in La Paz, near the end of the Prado, near a big old church. You will probably get there, its a long street that sells all the artesanal stuff, very tipical things like silver, like alpaca fur, or other souvenirs. Beware of the prices, since they see that you are a foreigner, they might want to rise the prices, so.. the best is to ask around a few times before buying anything.

  • Rurrenabaque - Bolivian Amazon jungle tours:

These tours are all listed as being 'Eco' which actually stands for Economical and not ecological. The tour company that we were with (just 2 people with a guide and cook for 4 days) did not hesitate to cut down EIGHT trees in a national park in order to buld a raft, they also cut down small trees each night to build a campsite - when they could have just as easiliy carried 2 man dome tents with built in mozzie nets..... please try to ensure that your tour is as eco friendly as possible, also tyr to only pay half before leaving to garantee the standard of tour that you are receiving

  • Tengan muchisisimo cuidado cuando cambién dinero!
Be aware when you change your money on the street!
Es mejor cambiar en los bancos, ya que incluso en algunas casa de cambio, como decimos en México, hacen tranzas.
Is better to change your money in the bank.

  • Internet in Copacabana, just off the border of Peru: 20 B$ per hour!!! In La Paz it's only 5 B$ and in Puno it's 2 S/.

Beware: they don't warn you before you start, so ask!

  • Do not trust just any tourist book guide when it comes to Bolivia, otherwise you would only see what everyone else has seen and which is probably not nearly as good as what you can experience. The only book I have read that describes Bolivia fairly well and gives you the best information is “The Lonely Planet’s Bolivia”, this doesn’t mean whatever they published on their web site I mean the real book.

I found many of the tourist book guides to focus on the places close to Peru (which are very similar to what you would see in Peru), and not mentioning or misinforming about other great places (some really cool ones which you can only see in Bolivia)!

  • The mercado food looks really good, tasts good, is (very) cheap, autentical and it is fun to chat with the Bolivians there. But sometimes Hepatitis and Thypus ... is going around there. So have seen your doctor before for this infusiones and maybe not eat there.

You might get charged extra for the bus!!

  • At the bus station in La Paz we paid too much for our ticket. When we saw the real price on our ticket we complained. The woman behind the desk said she didn't understand us. (We could say it in Spanish though, but it didn't sound convincing enough probably)
Anyway the ticket was still cheap so we didn't complain too much and went on our bus to continue our great trip.
