If you are in USA, Canado or Mexico, get in Bolivia with TACA group. They offer you a very good service. El grupo TACA ofrece muy buen servicio y conexiones desde México, Canada y USA. Por lo general tiene la ciudad de Lima como HUB.Travel in Bolivia by plane is expensive. Buses are fine.If you get in La Paz, I strongly suggest you travel by night. If you are in winter there (our summer in the boreal hemisphere) carry with your sleeping bag with you. In the nights gets really chilly. Between Potosí and La Paz is about 10 to 11 hours by bus. I suggest you also buy your ticket in the bus station. Is cheaper than to do a deal with an agency. Once you are in the bus, ask see one pic of the bus. Viajar dentro de Bolivia por avión es caro. Pero siempre está la opción del bus. Por lo general ofrecen un buen servicio. Pero no esperen muchos lujos, ni siquiera de los llamados de lujo. Viajen en...

Getting there by air must be...

by Popol_Vuh

Getting there by air must be very comfortable as quick ... but: consider the altitude may be a problem for some. In that case it's better to climb up little by little. I did it by bus coming from Chile, you leave in the morning, you get there in the afternoon. As an advantage if you choose this way, you will be able to appreciate the beauty of two national parks during the bus journey: Lauca (Chilean side) and Sajama (Bolivian side) with great landscapes (such as desert, lakes, valleys, cliffs) and local fauna (vicuñas, alpagas, llamas, condors). Another way, if you are planing to visit Peru as well, is to start by Peru and have at least one day each 1000 metres you go higher. Smokers, be careful, some can feel very, very bad (headackes, vomits, shakes, ...) what will make you miss part of the adventure ...a pity !Definetely the bus. There are not many, many other ways. In some places,...

Travelling up into Bolivia...

by Yso

Travelling up into Bolivia from Argentina by road is good.. although buses from the border to Uyuni are not very comfortable. The main advantage is that you become accustomed to the AltitudeDON'T take night buses if you can avoid it, they are crowded and unconfortable. If visiting the jungle (Rurrenebaque) I strongly advise flying from La Paz (about $50) because the 18 our bus ride is sheer hell

WHEN GOING OUT ON LAKE TATICACA, GO DOWN TO THE MARINA AND HIRE A BOAT AND DRIVER. THE ROUND TRIP FARE ISN'T MUCH HIGHER THAN THE FARE ABOARD ONE OF THE BIGGER PASSENGER BOATS, AND YOU CAN GO FASTER, AND RETURN FROM THE ISLAND WHEN YOU PLEASE.

Domestic air services are...

by montxito

Domestic air services are provided by LAB (www.labairlines.com), TAM (military airline) and AeroSur (www.angelfire.com/on/aerosur/). Be prepared for delays, cancellations and general unreliability. Bolivia's road network is not good, mainly because of the lack of paved roads. Most long-distance buses depart in the evening and travel through the night. Bolivian railways have been recently privatized and passenger services have been drastically cut back. There are two rail networks: one in the west and one in the east. The eastern network is completely chaotic; the western network is just disorganized. Don't be fooled by trains called tren expreso and other zippy names; all trains apart from the ferrobus are excruciatingly slow.

Fly from USA and/or Europe - ...

by Oneeye_jeff

Fly from USA and/or Europe - arrive at La Paz (high attitude at 12 thousand feet elevation in cool dryer climate with fantastic mountainous scenery) or Santa Cruz (low elevation at 900 feet in hot humid of flat tropical land). Find any bucket shop for the cheap flight to Bolivia. Bus, minibus, domestic airline, train, and jeep tour - They are incredible cheap for those transportation mode! While travel thoughout in Bolivia, the scenery is fantastic and spectulacular - Look like a wild wes just like in Arizona, Utah, New Mexico, Colorado and Western Texas!

by B_Caro

We left Puno on an ordinary local bus. Other people on the bus seemed to like that and started talking to us. The bus stopped at Desaguadero, a little town at the border. There we had to unload the bus and load everything in carriages (after bargaining with the owners). After the check out at the pass control in Peru, we passed the border on foot. At the other side of the bridge we arrived at the customs and there we had to fill in some more papers. After these formalities we went to our bus and were on our way to La Paz, but first we visited Tiuanaka. Here are more pics about'Crossing the border'.Flying from La Paz to Cuzco, you have a splendid view on Lake Titicaca.

Most of the roads are _really_...

by dicey

Most of the roads are _really_ dodgy in Bolivia. I would definitely avoid the La Paz - Rurrenabaque road. The journey takes about 20 hours and there have been lots of fatal accidents on it (I think there is about 1 a week). Much quicker and easier to fly. We paid about 60GBP for a return flight on the military airline who fly there 3 times a week. Okay, it may not be the safest looking aeroplane ever but I think it is better than the road and at least it only takes half an hour!
