Beware of where you're walking. I went to a lookout point high above La Paz and was so busy down at the city that I didn't notice a hole in the ground with only half a manhole grill over it. Thankfully the hole was only thigh deep, but the permanent dent in my leg is a constant reminder to watch where I'm going in future.

'The friendly old man with the map'A nice old man will ask you about the street or whatever. Of course you are friendly and helping him. Seconds later another man (well dressed ) is there, showing you a police passport (haha) and saying you have do come with him because of buying drugs from the old man. NEVER GO WITH THEM !!! You will be roped. They will find 1000 things why you have to come with them. But you have to know: There are no policemen without uniform in Bolivia (But it is sometimes that you are asked for the pssport, but just from uniformed ones ! ) If he will not let you go, say you will go with him to the tourist police. But YOU are knowing the way !

'Slide the bagpack'Old but still working: Little children will slide your bagpack, everything falls out and they take what they can get.Old solution but still working: Take your bagpack in front- looks stupid but it is your choosing...I make 1 daybag out of two, so I knitted everything on the 'walls' of my bag. When they would slide it, just a waterbottle and my guidebook would fall out (but the daybag is damaged of course )I saw so many traveller not caring about their things till something happen. And it will happen if not taking care !

Before we left, we were careful to get vaccinations. We had Hepatitis A, Typhoid, and yellow feaver vaccinations. These are not required to get into Bolivia, but they are heavily recommended! It's a 3rd world country, so there are typically more diseases going around. It all depends on which part of Bolivia (there are 3 basic altitudes) you will be going to. We were near a rainforest, which if you're going to the lower areas where the rainforests are, definitely get your yellow fever and typhoid vaccs. There's another one. Consult a doctor of tropical diseases(I think that's what branch it is) a couple of months before you go!!Have fun!!

Be careful, there´s never good street lighting on the streets, and often the freeways passing the mountains are near to deep slopes. So drive carefully!!!

When getting into a taxi make sure that it is a proper taxi and if they ask for passport or money don't hand it over.

As with most countries, one is most at risk to injury by cars or other vehicles...be careful as trucks barrel by at speeds that most would think are insane...
