There are approximately 12 km of marvelous untouched beaches between Caraiva and Praia do Espelho. It takes about 2 hours and a half to get there. It may seems quite a long walk but I think you won't regret.

If you walk another 3 km you come to Curuipe. There are two bars where you can refresh with cold beer and fried fish.

Curuipe IS chilled out

Caraiva has something else, the place is very very simple, there's not much there, a river, a beach, basic accomodations, basic stuff... well i think it's all very well balanced and maybe this is the magical vibes of Caraiva... you may listen different stories, anyways, if you haven't been there yet...what are you waiting for??? definetely one of my favourite places, or, as Coltrane, my favourite things

From bus to dugout canoe

Once you are in Porto Seguro you have to take a ferry to Arraial d'Ajuda. There are hourly buses from the ferry dock to Trancoso.

Two buses depart daily from Trancoso to Caraiva, early morning and early afternoon, and the journey takes two hours. The road is very bad and when it rains a lot it may become impassable. The bus stops on the river bank. Small dugout canoes transfer passengers across to the village.
