At about 6 hours bus ride from Salvador da Bahia Is the National Park Of Chapada Diamantina, a wonderful mountain area. If you like Hiking, trecking, caving, water sports, or just relax from touts and people or find some activity after so much relax at beaches.
The area has great landscapes, Waterfalls, and huge caves with stalamites and stalactites. there are day, three or even five day excursind by foot or car.
The Chapada Diamantina National Park is unique with its wonderful landascapes, waterfalls, canyons, natural swimming pools...
Culture and Ecotourism in the Vale do Capao : Many tourists are going to Lençois, but if you are looking for a place out of the beaten path, don´t want to be packed in minivans with 15 people to go for a trekking, don´t hesitate and come here. This valley is so close from the main trekkings and offers amazing natural views.
The valley possess a diversified culture with very hospitable people gathered around a lifestyle directed to human development and respect of nature. Where to sleep: LENDAS DO CAPAO is a pousada incorporated to the nature in a beautiful setting right in the Valley. River, sacred sauna, restaurant. They propose a 56 m2 chalet in a centennial jack tree 9m above ground ! Very friendly owner. They organize trekkings.
For budget travellers, the pousada SEMPRE VIVA offers cheap rooms. 3 minutes walk from the town center.

Fumaca Waterfall : The highest free fall of Brazil, trek starts 2km away form the valley do Capao. Beautiful !
Torrinha cave and Pai inácio hill: spectacular cavern with unique stalactites, stalagmites, and crystal formations. After this hike, you can swim in an underground river and see fishes and turtles deep in its crystal waters. After this you'll watch the sunset at the top of the Pai Inácio Hill unveiling a gorgeous panoramic view of the region.
How to get there: From Salvador, get a ticket at the bus station to PALMEIRAS. (44 Reals - 6/7 hours). 3 departures a day: 7am, 4.30 pm and 11.30 pm. take warm closes in the bus because of the A/C.
