Praia do Espelho and Curuipe
  • Tip Rating:
  • Praia do Espelho (Mirror Beach) is considered one of the most beautiful beaches of Brazilian coast. In fact it's an ecological paradise with white sand, coconut palm trees and natural swimming pools of transparent waters. White and orange cliffs divide Espelho from its neighbouring beach Praia do Curuipe.

To get there you can either go by buggy or take a bus which goes to Caraiva. It stops on the cross-road from where the road leads to Praia do Espelho. It is quite a walk!!

I made a trip by moto-taxi. The price was 50 Rs. I found it one of the greatest adventures!

    Caraiva, an Isolated Paradise
  • Tip Rating:
  • Caraiva is a fisherman village, situated between the river Caraiva, the sea and the indigenous reserve Pataxo. It's without electricity and cars. Sand-streets and coloured houses give a special charm to the place.

It offers various activities as boating, canoeing and long walks along the beach.

There is early morning and early afternoon bus along a dirt road from Trancoso to Caraiva. It takes two hours to get there. Last part of the journey is made by canoe.

    ESPELHO BEACH
  • Tip Rating:
  • Following my friends stories about the place,I headed for Trancoso in the South of Bahia state.Until 2000,this place was linked to the outside world by a dirt road, but now a new road had been built and what had been a backwater is just beggining to realise those days have gone!
But I was looking for a laid back beach resort to relax on and Trancoso fitted the bill fine!
I decided to stay here for the rest of the holiday and miss out Rio,a pitty but, well,Trancoso was cheaper new year's funs and the air much more fresh!
Espelho beach seems to be a must here, the beach where we spent most of our sun's hours!

    COSTA DO DESCOBRIMENTO
  • Tip Rating:
  • Costa Do Descobrimento is clasified as a national treasure as it was in this region Brazil was first discovered.
This tourist region begins in Barra Do Rio Cai
in the municipal of Prado, and includes Mount Pascoal National Park,Cumuruxatiba,Caraiva,Arraial D'Ajuda,Trancoso,Porto Seguro and extends until Coroa Vermelha and the source of Joao de Tiba river, which is in Santa Cruz Cabralia.
If you plann to reach Trancoso via Porto Seguro,I deeply recomend to take a walk there as well:Porto Seguro has a beautiful historical center which had been totally restored!
Visitors can imagine how it was like to live at the beggining of the 16th century when Cabral
    discovered Brazil!
Besides these rich historical buildings, there are many beaches, bays, rocks, and rivers to be explored in the region.
These attractions are surrounded by coconut palm trees, mangroves and coastal forests.
Porto Seguro is the gateway to this region!
A full Porto Seguro page will follow in the future!

    A bit for everyone
  • Tip Rating:
  • Trancoso is eclectic, you will find families, couples, backpackers, ravers, honyemooners, every one can find something to do.
There are a lot of restaurants in the Quadrado, but get out of there a bit too, the prices are higher here (will be posting more on Off the Beaten Path)
In summer (dec/jan/feb) there are small children's fairs, with trampolins and other rides.
Clubs and bars gallore, you wont get bored here

    Trancooooooooooooso
If you stay close to the "Quadrado" , well, there's not much to say, just walk and find by yourself the lovely village... Trancoso has a better infrastructure than Caraiva, the beach is something a part, if you keep walking to the right direction, you'll pass to many bars and chill outs... keep on going and you'll stop in Caraiva, it's about 20 something kilometers!!!!!!!!!
