  • Taxis

    Salvador da Bahia Transportation

As mentioned in many reviews, taxi services in Salvador range from mediocre to ripoff. There's many stories around of the tactics Salvador taxi drivers use to make a few extra bucks, from charging extra for air-conditioning and having the radio on, to getting 'lost' and charging extra to find the hapless travellers hotel. If it's any consolation,...

  • Airport Bus

    Salvador da Bahia Transportation

Arrived today, asked a taxi and it would be r$100! ($50!) I asked the bus too, it was r$2,80! ($1.40!). So I asked if the bus takes much longer and the answer was no because it's the same route and same traffic! Take the bus, it's right outside the front door of the airport! AND there's a spot for luggage!

  • Bus - Rodoviaria

    Salvador da Bahia Transportation

The rodoviaria (bus station) is located about five kilometers from the city center. There are direct buses to Praca de Se, but if you arrive at night it might be safer to take a taxi. From the airport take a 'Commercio'-Bus, it takes almost an hour to the bus station. On the second floor of the rodoviaria you can find the counters of the different...

  • Ferry Boat

    Salvador da Bahia Transportation

If you plan to go to the island of Itaparica, i recommend to go to Mar Grande. As i see it this island is overexposed, and less than interresting! Many talk about those beautiful beaches and the fantastic waters, but i think they are quite muddy, and the water is unclear. The restaurants are expensive, and all places but Mar Grande seem desserted....

  • Elevator Lacerdo

    Salvador da Bahia Transportation

Salvador is devided in to a new part of town by the harbour and an old part situated on a hill. To get from one side to the other you need to take an old elevator. It's possible to go by road aswell, but it takes much longer and it's not a very safe road. The elevator costs next to nothing and it's quite interesting. It was build in the 1930´s and...

  • Plano Inclinado

    Salvador da Bahia Transportation

Just behind the Catedral Basilica, you'll find this tram that will take you down to the lower town. I believe it was 1.50 reais and it takes about 3 minutes, so it definitely beats walking. However, it doesn't beat the Elevator Lacerdo which is even cheaper and provides better views. ***update*** oops, thanks to VTer Kittlelite who told me that...

  • Linha Verde

North of Salvador there are hundred of kilometres of wonderful beaches. These beaches are accessible via the Linha Verde (Green Line), a road running parallel to the coast, with access roads leading off to the coast itself. The road runs along sand dunes and the coast is almost unbroken line of coconut palms. There are several buses daily from...
