If you are more of a sedentary person, not quite up for abseils and snorkellings, there are still many cave tours to join. The options are all available from the hostel so you can flip through the selection and find one that suits you.The cave I visited was Gruta Lago Azul (Blue Lake Cave). At first, from afar, the water did not blue at all. But as...more
For this, you would be tethered to a rope and you have to descend 72m down into a cavern. Surrounded by stalactities of various formations, blahblahblah.Once you have landed on the pontoon, you change into a wetsuit and jump into the subterranean lake. What you see would be utterly out-of the-world!! The silence, the strange cones that come out...more
Usually, you snorkel in the ocean, but here, you snorkel in the river. And because fresh underground water is bubbling from the ground into the river, the water is so crystal clear (no colours at all) you can see up to 50m straight ahead. No ocean snorkelling can provide you with such views. You can see all the rocks, fallen logs, fishes (schools...more
I have to admit straight from the beginning that I passed on this one..... I wasn't into much of a good form that morning and had the wrong shoes on....Starting to descend to the Blue Lake I kept on slipping on the wet stones on the way and as the path got steeper and steeper , I got weaker and weaker and shaky untill I just stopped , sat down on a...more
As mentioned on the Intro page , not far from Bonito , in a completely flat area , for tectonic or other geological reasons that I have to admit are not to my knowledge , a pretty much round piece of land with about 300 meters radius collapsed hundreds of years ago ( as weird as the circles in the wheatfields...) and formed an enormous maybe 50 or...more
Here we go ... or rather here he comes......Mr. Alligator going out for brunch....... he seems to be good humored judging from this wily smile ( picture # 1 )..... On picture # 2 he's got this funny look.... almost as if he was thinking of how to get a free bite out of this delicious snack..... He even looks more like your common lizard than a...more
( making a word joke referring to Steven Spielbergs film from the early 80 ies , "ET ", the Extraterrestrial stranded on Earth trying to call home for help.....)Now , Bonito would be just a nice place to get stranded but I certainly wouldn't call home for help... But if you forgot your cell phone at home and needed to call urgently , there are many...more
Bonito and surroundings are full of rivers and creeks and these are full of small and beautifull waterfalls. We took extensive walks and hikes through hilly forests which was some sacrifice for me because I was the oldest in the group and being a smoker I was soon out of breath and way back...... Still, I somehow made it and got as reward a nice...more
This is a natural cave that has been there for many years. The tours leave to walk to the caves every haf an hour. Its quite an exhausting walk as the steps are slippery and very steep. The walk takes you right down to the water which is a beautiful shade of blue. Its worth seeing even if you are very tired at the end.more
This place is more like a park. There are a few bar and snack places. The main attraction point though is the river running through the park. The water is crystal clear and there are loads of fish, all very large. If you are not such a strong swimmer there is also a store that will hire life jackets. This places is great to come to for an afternoon...more

Fascinating! That can describe this traject through the bushes and the most beautiful waterfalls and clear-water rivers. There's this two natural swimming-pools: Poço da Lontra pit and Boca da Onça waterfall which is 156 meters tall. Many spots to swim along the Salobra river. In the middle of the traject there's this place to eat and rest a litlle...more

Can you believe this?
In "Gruta Azul"(blue grotto),when you practice your most extreme Rapel, what will happen,if,once down, you get hungry and didn't bring anyhting to eat???
A sandwiche-bar located in the entrance of this site, will provide you a delicious fresh sandwich straight down,in a lash and a special delivery box!
There is nothing more relaxing than just floating down the river in a boat. Sun beating down, fish swimming past......heaven.
Well, I was out on an excursion and the driver stopped the car. we saw an animal called Tamanduá Bandeira in Portuguese. it is an animal who eats ants. I dont know the name in English. Bonito trip was a continuation of our trip to Pantanal.
After we saw so many incredible things there,we wondered what can be so special here in Bonito,we didn't already saw at Pantanal??
All we asked said the same:Pls don't miss the "Buraco Das Araras"(the macaws hole)!
The track to there makes you wonder even more what will happen in the end you didn't see before?Macaws??Well, always a pleasure to meet them in their big groups making a lot of noises,but..
And here I say, with even not a pint of extravagance or exageration:what I saw was one of the most unbelievable things I ever had the chance to see before!
This huge hole,a home for thousand of Macaws,is just incredible, fantastic!
I'm not sure if the pictures I'll add right now can really show how amazing it's!!
This is the popular and famous picture everybody takes when geting there!
